Discussion for article #241625
“Turkish jets have also carried out numerous deadly airstrikes on Kurdish rebel targets in northern Iraq. Some 150 police and soldiers and hundreds of rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, have been killed since July, when the conflict flared anew.”
Totally aside from this horrific main story that I find totally deplorable regardless of who carried it out, The above quote struck me as interesting for its lack of observation of the irony involved in the general Middle East havoc. I asked myself Why is it OK for Turkey to bomb the Kurdish rebels in a foreign country (Iraq) and it’s not OK for Russia and Syria to bomb Syrian rebels. in Syria. Oh, yeah! I forgot, we only think its OK to kill (which the Turkish jets have been doing en masse) civilians when WE or our “allies” do it. Silly me!
I really really REALLY wish we did NOT have to rely on Turkey but that’s a geographic reality we have to face. Absolutes got us into this mess, if Bush’s grocery clerk Bremmer had NOT disbanded the Bathist Army in Iraq this would NOT have happene. Were they devils? Of course. Did you want poor unpaid free agent professional soldiers prowling the countryside? NO! Those who still feel betrayed (such as myself) because we used German and Japanese leadership and soldiers to keep the peace after WWII … this was why it happened.
Oh, yeah! I forgot, we only think its OK to kill (which the Turkish jets have been doing en masse) civilians when WE or our “allies” do it.
The saddest thing about this is that Kurds should be our natural allies as the only non-sectarian force on the ground.
What can one say about power except that it corrupts absolutely.
My condolences to the families.
This is a senseless random killing of innocents that has all of the hallmarks of a Wahabbi Sunni terrorist group. The religious are capable of unspeakable evil. As Goya said: “The death of reason creates monsters.”
However, I will await more information. Have authorities identified suspects?
