Jindal’s anti-Muslim hate-mongering is so repugnant to any American who remembers his immigrant forebears. My Jewish immigrant grandparents never learned proper English (on my mother’s side they could barely speak English at all), they lived in Jewish neighborhoods, read Jewish newspapers, ate Jewish food, and never, never converted to Christianity. Isn’t there a whole section of NYC (is it in Brooklyn? forgive me…I’m a Boston boy) that’s all sorts of jewish, where you can’t walk a block without seeing dudes with crazy long curly Hasidic sideburns? The process of assimilation has ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS involved formation of ethno-centric communities where unassimilated immigrants feel safe and are surrounded by fellow immigrants and familiar, comfortable cultural norms. That process has also ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS involved small minded bigots complaining about such communities as if they’re some sort of dangerous affront to the rest of Amurikkkan culture and safety and “everything this country stands for blah blah fuck the brown people, wops, micks, turds, christians/catholics, spics, kikes, krauts, etc.” This “no go zone” shit is old hat and should be getting the “oh brother, here we go again” response…not feigned concern as if the racist/bigoted crap these assholes are spewing somehow escaped being illegitimate this time.

The only “No-Go Zone” I am aware of in the United States is the French Quarter after midnight.
