What do you think Bobby Jindal sees when he looks in a mirror? What do you think his fellow Republicans see in him when they look at him? What do they perceive besides just one more token brown person in the party?
He has some serious defense mechanisms going on, to be able to deny his own immigrant background while at the same time so easily willing to disparage other immigrants. Somehow for Jindal, they don’t fit his idea of what a “good immigrant” is all about. Its still not clear to me if any immigrants besides his own family is worth his effort.
Jindal has what I believe they call reaction formation in psychological terms. Sadly, the only one he’s mind-fucking with all this immigrant-bashing is himself. Clearly he lacks basic self-awareness, and if not, than intentional hypocrisy.

METV does have an excellent Saturday line up though…Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Star Trek, Svengoolie, Lost In Space, Voyage to the Bottom of Sea. Those of us watching the Svengoolie horror shows are actually in the top trending on twitter for quite a while now.
American values? Would that be those of the Puritans who founded MA? Or Roger Williams in RI? Or the Catholics in Maryland? Or the Quakers in Pennsylvania? Or the refuge for debtors? Or the parts of America colonized by the French, Spanish or Russians?
In the 50’s “American Values” was code for kicking “Un-Americans” out or into prison. Look in the mirror, Bobby.
The ‘dry cleaner’ street scene in the opens for UNCLE and Smart appear to be the same. Also, I noticed an UNCLE executive named ‘Felton’…any relation to Barbara (Agent 99 in ‘Get Smart’) I wonder?
For Jindal, a good immigrant is someone who comes to America and abandons all traces of their heritage or country of origin. They drop non-English names and adopt an Americanized name like he did. Their heritage should be seen as a source of shame and embarrassment. Jindal is a self-hating weasel who is in deep denial of himself and most likely hopes to look in the mirror someday and see the white guy he’s always wanted to be. He’s got some serious mental health issues.
Hopefully, that does not mean they have to accept the values of the christian right born again assholes or of the bigoted and stupid values of the gop.
My family has been in this country since 1685. That doesn’t include the native American element. If I thought for a moment my values mirrored those of this little insect, I’d turn in my membership card to the human race.
Yet Louisiana has spent many years and many dollars trying to preserve what’s left of, and maybe even grow, the Cajun French culture and language following the forced assimilation that most now see as having been misguided and damaging.
Joining the most fundamentalist wing of a European religion is apparently also important. Jindal is I believe supposed to be Catholic but his beliefs are totally fundie American Protestant.
“Yes, we need to secure our border. Stop talking about it,” he continued. “I think we need to insist that folks who come here come here legally, learn English, adopt our values, roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
Why should they be held to a higher standard than a good portion of the fat, lazy, idiots who populate the GOP?
That’s exactly what he means. He, much like Santorum, wants to enforce his values, and only his values, through legislation. It’s something they’ve been trying to do to minorities for years now. They want to force people of color to talk, dress, dance, sing, and generally act like conservative white people. That’s why they get so offended when someone sings the National Anthem in a soulful way, because in their eyes it’s a rejection of the great white way. Instead of embracing and learning from different cultures in order to enrich their own lives, they see doing so as a threat that needs to be stopped.
