Discussion for article #231694

I have tremendous faith and trust in the Providence of the lord Jesus Christ and my appeals attorneys

Jeebus, he’s acting like he really believes all that hoohah they shoveled at him at Regent U. Maybe they should have had a class that said Jesus can’t help you if you abuse the public trust for your own enrichment.

Good luck in prison, Bob!

“McDonnell Looks To God For ‘Ultimate Vindication’ After Sentencing”

In that case, son, when you regain your freedom in two years, I’ll lay odds you’re an atheist…

The more charitable part of me wants to believe that he is grasping at religious straws to keep emotionally afloat, BUT the realist in me knows beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is a run-of-the-mill Grifter and is simply setting up a “I’m a Born-Again Christian have PITY ON ME!” scam to try to get his sentence reduced on appeal.

Yes, but will Jesus forgive you for all the sex you’re about to have in prison?

Dear McAsshat, I’m pretty sure god thinks you’re an asshole and he’s gonna smack you silly.

Well…makes sense…I thought that was the whole point of religion in the first place. After all, the emotionally weak make terrific prey. Pray? Nah…prey.

“I am saddened by the effect this trial has had on our Commonwealth’s reputation for clean, effective government,”

The trial had nothing to do with it. YOU’RE THE ONE who shamed the office and Virginia’s (dubious) reputation for clean government. YOU DID IT. YOU. Not your wife, not your trial.

Gutless, finger-pointing scumbag.

And so he recedes into the last moral refuge of a scoundrel (religion) at the same time as he does the same thing physically (prison).

Other than God and Grifter both starting with the letter G, I don’t get the connection.

It’s nice to know that he has an imaginary friend who’s on his side.

Do they have ultrasounds in prison?

You know who else looked to dog for salvation? Czar Nicholas II of Russia. Bob’s fortunate to be left alive.

'I would also say to the great people of Wisconsin that I have never, ever done anything that in any way would cause any harm at all to any member of my species while in general population prior to being arrested.

'And I probably WOULD go ahead and say exactly that, except I CAN’T, because of what I was charged with doing and what I was convicted in a court of law of doing and what I have never really challenged in any substantive way except by the formalities of pleading not guilty and insisting the government prove it and to blame someone else can’t remember exactly who, and to say, in effect or directly, hey look, I didn’t mean to do it, it sort of just happened, then I got arrested and from that point on it sort of just didn’t happen any more.

Anyway, it’s all good, since the only entity worthy of judging me is this mythical omnipotent being who quite obviously doesn’t give a rat’s tiny butt about me being in this pickle.’

“I have immense faith in the justice system, but I have tremendous faith and trust in the Providence of the lord Jesus Christ and his ability to mete out justice and that is my hope for ultimate vindication. I know his hope never fails, it never gives up, and it’s never going to run out on me,” McDonnell said.

Excellent idea! If you read Jesus’s teachings, it’s clear he had a real soft spot for people who abuse positions of power and trust in order to amass wealth.

Repent now, make money later, that’s basically how it works for Republican criminals.
