Discussion for article #234589

What Mr. Jones meant was that gay people should be allowed to use cannabis in all its forms just like straight people.

If it was “… antithetical to my theology and my 50 years of preaching a redeeming Christ …”, why make the comment in the first place? Why take 35 years to denounce the statement?

In Colorado and Washington state, they already are.

Huh? what is this change / transformation in outlook ? could it be … evolution?

The story doesn’t say, but having made this apology has Bob Jones now embraced and affirmed the dignity and worth of LGBT people? If not, why not?

Preparing to meet his maker…honestly, this is better late than never, and far better than anyone got from the likes of Jolly Jerry or will get from Pat Robertson. Billy Graham has never been so hate-filled, but Franklin is, and I doubt he’d ever back track this much. Be gracious in victory.

“Neither before, nor since, that event in 1980 have I ever advocated the stoning of sinners,” he continued.
so the gay are still on your sinning shitlist?

yeah he’s sorry … just like everybody else who holds those bigoted views

this conversion usually happens when a grandkid comes out. just sayin’

Of course, there is no mention of any type of penance or direct action by BJ that proves he has firmly changed his mind, such as a money donation to an AIDS Foundation, political action against homophobia in Uganda, or any other charitable or church-driven impulse. Just cheap talk 35 years late.

He is sorry if anyone was offended.

Unfortunately, I’m allergic to marijuana…

I for one, fully support the right of every gay man or woman to be stoned! If it’s legal for my straight brethren to toke up, then why can’t I?

Too damn late!

Even George Wallace repented, of sorts. But Jones’ regret may not make him anything less than a bigot.

That’s OK, Bob. We’ll just cut out your tongue.

Not only does he not advocate stoning gays, it now seems he’s opposed to stoning anyone. This is huge: he’s saying that the Bible, the Holy Living Word of God Himself, is wrong. The Bible clearly and unequivocally calls for the stoning of adulterers. And Bob Jones is saying that he does not advocate the stoning of adulterers, or anyone else. So he disagrees with the clear commandments of Scripture. Does this mean that . . . I almost hesitate to type such a heretical concept . . . that other things in the Bible might also be wrong? Or is this the one and only place where the Bible made a mistake?

The “swift justice” he embraces would have had his tongue cut out 35 years ago.

He’s making amends before meeting FSM.
