Discussion: Blasey Ford 'Committed To Moving Forward With An Open Hearing On Thursday'

“Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Sunday told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that ‘we’ll hire our own counsel’ to question Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh.”

I hear Rudy’s available.

Very courageous woman. And I’ll bet her prep is going well unlike…ahem…someone else’s.

This has got to be a nightmare for Republicans. They were browbeating her, doing their level best to keep her from testifying by stacking the deck. Well, the deck is still stacked, but here she comes anyway. It’ll be interesting to see if Kavanaugh is forced to withdraw before Thursday.

A number of important procedural and logistical issues remain unresolved, although they will not impede the hearing taking place.”

Assuming the nomination survives that long. Watch for the Wednesday news dump.

My admiration for Dr. Blasey Ford just keeps growing. She has the harder job in testifying, because she is limited to the truth, but that generally makes it easier to avoid getting caught in a contradiction. On the other hand, we can bet that the Republicans are planning a withering barrage of “when did you stop beating your wife” type questions. It will be very disorienting.

Republicans bringing in “somebody … that knows what the hell they’re doing”

Democrats?

It is so hard to see how there is ANY way this hearing is not a complete and utter disaster for the GOP.

The Trump GOP Senate judiciary committee members are all men. Being cowards, they will put in a woman lawyer to savage Dr. Ford.

Guess what, scumbags? That transparent tactic reveals you are hiding and don’t care about the truth. Everyone knows it.

Given their history of savaging Anita Hill (Oriin Hatch and Chuck Grassley were part of that disgraceful effort), and that a majority of Republicans in the Senate Judiciary Committee were among the minority of Republicans who voted against reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2013, I can see why they want to ‘keep their hands clean.’ It is their lack of common decency reveals an underlying moral vacuum

They would look bad doing the questioning. (tone deaf bullies)

And they will look bad not doing the questioning. (incompetent cowards)

Not if you inhabit the right wing echo chamber, and get your news from Fox ‘News’, Rush Limbaugh, and the like

Yes, they will be working overtime to try to make this all look legit.

But the Senate is in play. They need voters outside of the victum-cult.

Completely and totally agree.

And at this point the withdrawal of the nomination is also a disaster.

Sounds like in his prep questioning he refuses to answer questions dealing with his personal sexual/drinking history which is curious since the pornographic questions he composed for President Clinton to answer were of such a grotesquely personal nature.

Cowards.

He separately referred to committee Republicans bringing in “somebody come in that knows what the hell they’re doing” and “a professional litigator” to do the questioning.

So you’re going to treat an attempted rape victim like a criminal?

Typical Republicans. I can’t imagine why Dr. Ford was reluctant to come forward.

Then again, it’s really not necessary to imagine why, given how appallingly the GOP has openly behaved so far.

I was thinking the same thing. If Kamala Harris gets to ask Kavanaugh questions – now his drug, alcohol, and sexual history is fair game, isn’t it? After reading about his close friend Mark Judge, I’m sure Judge Kavanaugh has some skeletons in his closet and might not want to open himself up to perjuring himself. He’s got a pretty cush job on the appellate bench he doesn’t want to risk. I think they keep the bullying tactics up (ie Lindsay Graham) to see if she pulls out but she’s not going to. I think he will.

Bring in somebody who knows what the hell they are doing?
I thought that was what the mid-terms were for.

If they want to bring an outside Litigator, they will need someone who embodies all of the following:

  1. Woman, 2. Republican but not a nutcase, 3. Asks tough questions while showing empathy 4. Acceptable to the Drumpf base
I can’t think of a single person who meets that criteria

I do wonder if it even matters? I wonder if they’re willing to lose the Senate to stack the Court with severe Rs?
