Discussion: Black Woman In 'Republicans Are People Too' Ad Is Just A Stock Photo

Discussion for article #228333

This is hilarious. They couldnā€™t even find actual people that are Republicans that fit their nifty new meme? I wonder how these people feel being associated with this ad? Canā€™t be too angry since they sold the rights to their image for stock photos, but still.

Iā€™m curious where they found the ignorant young black woman in the ā€œSay yes to Rick Scottā€ ad.

She was probably bought too.

ā€œRepublicans are people too. Weā€™re often the featured portrait that comes with your picture frame.ā€

This needs to become an SNL skit or an internet meme. All the fake ways Republicans are real people.

The GOP views I-Stock as a political football. Punt them wherever you want in the minority outreach.

Republicans are stupid - and cheap. I am sure the music ā€˜stockā€™ also.

The text from the website:

It isnā€™t easy being a Republican these days.

There are people who will stick up for Genghis Khan before theyā€™ll defend a Republican. (ā€œGenghis was just misunderstood.ā€)

We love political discourse. We encourage political discourse. But when did ā€œRepublicanā€ become a dirty word?

Hereā€™s the deal: before you post another bullying comment, think about this:

Republicans are people, too.

If I was a real Republican, I would be SOOO embarrassed by this nonsense. (but only 67 followers on twitter)

HaHaHa!

Whatā€™s even more perplexing is that Republicans PRIDE on being different from Democrats. From eating healthy to recycling to book learnin ā€” they tend to reject those type of things. Yet this campaign seems to try to co-opt what are your typical Democratic actions. I suppose that is the idea, but I canā€™t help but wonder who this was supposed to appeal to? Liberals who want to be Republicans but without the whole icky pro-choice, equal pay, evolution believing, the climate change aware, science believing pro-regulations type? Because I just canā€™t see them turning toward Republicanism because they have tattoos tooā€¦

Curiously enough, even their two-dimensional, lifeless representations have more decency and self-awareness than most actual Republicans.

I wonder how the brainstorming for this ad went down:

ā€œā€-Letā€™s show photos of republicans that defy the commonly held perception that republicans are just old crotchety bigoted white men.

-Ok, but we havenā€™t found people like that, in real life. Should we try using goggle.image for minorities?"

-Sounds good. Thatā€™s a wrap.""

ā€œRepublicans are backā€ - ya, like 37 out of 30,000,000

Well we didnā€™t mean literally. But hypothetically speaking, Republicans can be any of these things and more. Maybe even white, and possibly white male over the age of 80 who is watching Fox News as we speak and would prefer that you get off of his lawn.

Our point is that weā€™ve got a big tent, and it includes anyone who has a photo we can use without paying too much for it. Did we mention Benghazi?

Well itā€™s certainly not aimed at Republicans. It really is an insight into how they look at the world. These are people that are look like dems to GOPers. And dems are mostly just darks, poor dumbo drug addicts and 20 somethings. So they are all stupid and if you just apply some peer pressure they will start voting for Newt Gingirch. I hope I have not offended anyone with my characterization of my fellow liberals, it was intended as satire only.
