…when Robert E. Lee surrendered he asked all of his followers to furl this flag. Stow it away, he said. Put it in your attics," Clyburn continued. “He refused to be buried in his Confederate uniform. His family refused to allow anyone dressed in the confederate uniform to attend his funeral.”

I didn’t know all that. And I was raised in Virginia.
Oh…wait!

The Union also turned his plantation into a giant graveyard – Arlington National Cemetery.

I love Clyburn, but I don’t care about educating these yahoos.

HANG THIS AROUND THEIR KKK NECKS! Support the Klan in 2016 by voting GOP!

Lee’s father was “Light Horse” Harry Lee who fought alongside Washington in the Revolution and was a genuine and true patriot. RE Lee could have been but wasn’t.

“Put it in your attics,”

It’s going to take all of 5 seconds for some Teatroll asshat to promote the interpretation that Lee meant “don’t destroy it…keep it for when the South rises again.”

Wow. I hadn’t known that. How terribly and powerfully symbolic of what he sowed instead of crops.

Glad to see someone slam the door on that heritage crap. Clyburn didn’t rewrite history, he spoke it.

The battle flag with its bullshit “heritage” has only flown at the SC Statehouse in Columbia since 1961. Not 1861. The “heritage” is nothing more than white backlash building from that year forward against the coming civil rights movement.

It wasn’t by choice. It was Ulysses Grant rubbing the traitor general’s nose into it.

It’s depressing to me that so many of our “lawmakers” are so ignorant of actual history. Not to mention our fellow citizens. I’m specifically thinking Of one Mr Rizheimer, resident of Phoenix, AZ who seems to specialize in embarrassing my state by touting that flag at a local Walmart in Phoenix.

The Quartermaster-General of the Union not only turned Lee’s plantation into a graveyard, but he ordered that soldiers be buried so that nobody could every again live in the house.

He hated Lee SO MUCH that he was literally laying the Union dead at his front door.

Well, technically his wife’s plantation, but yeah. One of the nicer F-you moves in US history.
