Discussion for article #239251
Not a very wise choice of target.
Not the way to do this nor the person to do it to. Why not storm Trump, Cruz, Walker. I believe that Bernie would be a receptive ear to their views as he understands and has fought for most of the things that the BLM movement is about. Alas, there are radicals in every movement.
This coverage gives no indication whatsoever of what the nature of their complaint may have been.
They talked for twenty minutes? What did they say?
My guess is that they are wrong about Bernie who is not my preferred candidate but I would like to hear what they see as a problem.
I believe these BLM reps are false flag plants by the GOP / Koch to try to discredit Sanders. I doubt they really represent the BLM. This can also discredit BLM. I have reservations about this BLM activism being authentic. As others have commented in articles before this one, otherwise BLM would be targeting the real evils: Dubya II, and the other 16 clown car riders and liars. Those are the legitimate targets. This is why I believe the BLM here is a contrived move by Kochs and GOP.
I think it is strange that they have now twice done this to Bernie (once for O’Malley)…
Yet not once at a Hillary event…
Unfortunately BLM is not an organized movement and anyone with the gumption can interrupt public events in their name. I believe this is all about racial grievance and attention. It’s doing major damage to the movement on the Left.
This has all been hashed over pretty exhaustively over at the Great Orange Satan. The person who led the disruption is from an organization called Outside Agitators 206. Her commitment to the Black Lives Matter movement seems to be genuine, but she’s also a fundamentalist Christian and Sarah Palin fan who has grumbled publicly about not being invited to be showcased by the Republican Party the way e.g. Mia Love has been.
Maybe it’s because BLM would not only not be well received at a GOP event, they’d probably be kicked out.
Sanders does not control his own events? Any person can just jump up on stage and start yelling at his rallies. Twenty minutes and he just leaves? And he wants to be POTUS. No matter how good his ideas, he is just not up to the job.
Maybe because the secret service would never let them get anywhere near Hillary’s podium?
It wasn’t his event. It was a Social Security/Medicare anniversary event; he was just one of many people invited to speak. His own Seattle rally was held that evening and there were no such issues.
i do hope that these event organizers are now paying attention. that these ill-informed hucksters are seizing control of these events is bullshit. it almost makes one wonder who’s bankrolling them…
To compare liberalism with racism. Is to not understand liberalism.
Whether this is on purpose or not, remains to be seen.
My first question is… “Who benefits from these statements?”
Kochs etc would seem to benefit from strife between African Americans and democratic party, but then why not at Hillary gatherings?
Added- Perhaps the Kochs see Hillary as someone they could live with?
The surest way to marginalize the so far worthwhile BLM movement is to shout down people who are predisposed to be allies.
Last week (3 August), the comic strip Candorville actually addressed some of this. The person behind the strip, Darrin Bell, noted that Bernie is very much addressing issues that minority groups hold dear, and yet, they don’t seem to be listening. It really is stupid of them to go after Bernie instead of, say, Ben Carson, and things like this tend to piss me off.
I’ve enjoyed Candorville for years, incidentally.
Not sure podium access is a prerequisite for disruption.
Even an attempt at disrupting a Hillary event, by BLM no less, would garner Trump level coverage a Fox…
Yet… Crickets…
Added- to be fair she has ensured such things don’t happen by not appearing before uncontrolled, un-prescreened audiences.
Bernie is that most evil of things - a white male.
He was basically asking for it.
“Predisposed”?
Bernie’s the only candidate up there who marched with Martin Luther King, Jr. Bernie’s been part of the Civil Rights Movement for decades. He is an ally who opposes the militarization of our police, the prison-industrial complex, and speaks out against poverty and exploitation in this country. Other than some past votes on guns, which can be interpreted as being problematic, the man has a near flawless record regarding minorities in this country.
