Discussion: Black Lives Matter Activist: Mall Of America Protest 'Decoy' For Airport Block

Discussion for article #244098

A revised tally showed a total of 12 arrests at both sites, mostly for trespassing or obstruction of justice [emphasis added].

Um, I think not.

Yesterday they were telling us this is all individual initiative and the the “movement” is not responsible for any of the bone-headed things individuals do, now, today they are seeking a pat on the back for how well planned and executed their screwing of the good people of Minneapolis was. Perhaps they have this all planned right up to the huge kum-bai-ya moment with Clinton just as early voting starts?

I sure hope the District Attorney in Minneapolis-St Paul is reading this. Conspiracies to commit felonies are taken seriously. We need a bunch of these assholes in jail over Christmas, and some serious felonies out there. Is this a RICO outfit?

Okay, now they have people’s attention.

Now what’s the plan?

That’s why the Occupy movement died. They had no long-range plans. Thats also why the Tea Party is continuing. They have people giving them plans or who have plans to use them.

Elected Congressmen writing to tell military Generals & Admirals that they should revolt & not obey the Commander in Chief, is, for sure, Sedition, having 15 or more republican Congressmen adding their approval to a signed seditious letter is also a ‘conspiracy’ that will be ignored. Never mind that Sedition is a highly serious Felony Conspiracy, far more serious than a few protesters trying to bring attention to absolutely unjust treatment by ‘The Authorities.’ Of course, the protesters are those dreadful Scary Blacks and, come to think of it, so is the Commander in Chief, huh, I wonder if that is some sort of a connection?

Gov. Mark Dayton said the moving protest created a "very, very dangerous situation."

Hey, Governor, what’s creating the dangerous situation is a nationwide pattern of cops killing unarmed citizens in a clearly racially-biased manner. Were it not for that, these “dangerous” disruptions of your comfort and privilege wouldn’t be necessary, now, would they?

Someone will have to explain to me how this is anything more than a perfect way to get everyone to hate and oppose this movement. The usual answer is some thought-terminating clichĂ© about how protests aren’t supposed to make people comfortable, but really, what’s the next move here? To undermine themselves further by making more people hate them next week? How does this lead to anything they want?

“I think it was really effective.”

Sure. Everyone likes to be fucked with. I can’t think of a better way to win folks over then to fuck with them and ruin their Christmas vacations. Black lives do matter. BLM doesn’t.

I think the saying is" two wrongs don’t make a right" and the folks jacked with at the airport never shot a Black kid. This was a ridiculous and counterproductive stunt. Fuck BLM.

Your right but these aren’t protests. Protests are conducted to get your cause in the minds of other people and to win them over to it. BLM is just a bunch of fucking idiots that are probably resented by more Black people than they’d like to admit. I agree
they aren’t achieving anything positive and if pissing people off to the point that Black Lives don’t matter is BLM’s goal they are right on target.

“We accomplished exactly what we came here to accomplish — we wanted to shut down the highway, shut down the airport and show solidarity with other Black Lives Matter groups,” Michelle Barnes of Minneapolis, one of the protest organizers, told the Star Tribune.

I’d like to know, historically speaking, when shutting down a highway and an airport shows anything other than a determination to get ordinary people to be fed up with you and your “solidarity”. Up to now, I thought BLM was making progress, in particular with the progressive contingent in this country. It doesn’t take much for people to walk away from that and consider the group another bunch of obstructionists who can’t think of another way to make a point than inconveniencing ordinary people.

What a small number of organized individuals can accomplish.

In addition to a plan, I think there are better ways of getting people’s attention.

Remember the AIDS quilt? What about a video version, projected on the side of a large municipal building?

How about a display of Black Lives Missing?

How about videos of the killings, each with audio or text display of the local police union spokesperson making ridiculous claims about the legitimacy of the killing?

If you’ve seen people with bumper stickers that say “doing my part to piss of liberals” or “doing my part to piss off the religious right” then you’re familiar with the mentality. When spite becomes your raison d’ĂȘtre there’s no reason to think about the next move, because once you’ve angered everyone at the airport your work is done.

Now what’s the plan?

First on that list should be to stop pissing off people who actually support your cause.

these tactics are beyond idiotic and destructive to the issue they supposedly are trying to address. organize these protests to attend city council meetings/protest at the mayors/governors’ offices/local police precincts
instead, they fuck up the holiday travel and alienate people who could be sympathetic; or invade school libraries and scream insults at students who are studying; or they hold meetings where white sympathizers are denied access

but the funniest thing is how they compare themselves to occupy wall street – despite the fact that ows accomplished fuckall and has essentially disappeared from the scene. the banks are bigger than ever; are again engaging in the same practices that previously crashed the world’s economy; continue to receive billions in bonuses; and not one of those fuckers has gone to jail

otoh, perhaps they’re just referring to the catchy and memorable name – occupy wall street/black lives matter.

Let’s get some facts on the table. Black lives obviously don’t matter or so many blacks would not be taking them.

“Don’t be snitchin’” is still the watchword in the inner city. Not only do they have bad relationships with cops, there is this ethos of not assisting cops in the solving of crimes. So, some gang-banger thug shoots a 3 YO, it’s widely known who did it, but no one tells the cops. Yep, black lives do matter, but some lives matter more than others, as Orwell knew clearly.
