Discussion: Black Counter-Protester Who Wielded Flamethrower At Charlottesville Arrested

Good. Let the lawful authorities sort this out.

I’m okay with this arrest, but I’m frustrated that Preston had to be identified by activists despite the fact that police were clearly within earshot of his firearms discharge.

Will be following this case. Bringing the spray can would suggest premeditation to use it, 'cause it’s not something one would normally carry. But using it against a flag is protected speech whereas using it against someone’s face is not. Will be interested to see how this plays out in the courts.

I’m betting he’s one of the good flame thrower wielders.

Looked like self defense to me.

He was arrested in August for discharging a firearm within 1,000 yards of a school—a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

WHAT? That’s illegal? NO! It can’t be! Muh 2A rights are being trampled on!

Where is the NRA on this issue? They need to black-list any and all politicians that voted for such a heinous law! This law was put in place by the forces of cultural hitler marxism communism atheist pinko libtard tree hugging america destroying left-wing antifa islamic fundamentalist terrorists (and I bet it has support from that laziest of generations, the millennials, too).

And the law sounds very politically correct, too, so for that alone, it needs to be unlawed: PCness is ruining muh democracy!

And how can the cops protect us if we don’t let them fire their guns within 1000 yards of a school? How can the military fight for our rights in Iraq and Afganistan with this law? And if they can’t fight for our rights, how can we use them as a strawman argument against NFL players protesting police brutality by kneeling during the anthem?

I have heard of but haven’t myself seen reporting that he and the guy in the blue shirt were protecting the older guy to his right. Still looking for that story, because the accounts i’ve seen on it lack clarity.

Literally “Fire” arms.

By that line of thinking, bringing a gun would suggest premeditation. Had Preston hit and killed someone, could he be charged with first-degree murder?

Long wasn’t charged with assault for the incident–he was charged with disorderly conduct. So I don’t think a first-degree murder charge would be likely. But I’d agree with the charge if it happened.

Preston was looking for an excuse to shoot someone. He absolutely played the scenario out in his head beforehand. you can see it in his posturing in the video, and i’ll bet a quick review of his posting history on social media would show the same.

It is entirely possible for people on our side to be in favor of punching Nazis but still be accepting of the legal consequences that come with punching people.
