Discussion: Billionaire Carl Icahn To Advise Trump On Regulatory Reform

This is good. Just like he does with companies, he can break up the country into parts and create an absolute mess, while making himself a lot of money. What could go wrong?

I’m so pleased to know that trump’s thinkin’ about the little guy …the working stiff who voted for him by hob nobbing with billionaires and appointing them (and the generals) to his cabinet. Oh, and draining the swamp in DC.
OK, no more snark.

I’m hoping those low information folks who voted for trump are aware of what he’s up to. That he in fact does not care about anyone but himself. That his kids are doing their best to fleece the rubes. That Newt thinks the nascent 1st family is above the law. I hope buyer’s remorse sets in …in a big way.

I would wish to see him fail but I care about my country and its people who would necessarily get hurt along the way.

Good to see that Trump is compensating for his relative youth and inexperience by hiring someone ten years his senior.

To have any less respect for donald trump would be difficult.

“Carl was with me from the beginning and with his being one of the world’s great businessmen, that was something I truly appreciated,” Trump said in a statement. "He is not only a brilliant negotiator, but also someone who is innately able to predict the future especially having to do with finances and economies. His help on the strangling regulations that our country is faced with will be invaluable.”

I wonder who wrote that for him, because he never said it that way, ever.

They’re not in the least. They’re as low information now as ever and still in the euphoria of the win plus ignoring it all because Christmas. They won’t know what hit them until it hits them.

Why are you using the word “reform,” when destruction does so much better?

They will remain happy with Trump as long as there is a liberal somewhere complaining about Trump.

The CFPB will be gone. Any and ll regulation that prevents average Americans from being ripped to shreds by financial predators is also gone.

How long before we go right back to 2008? December 2017? June?

“Icahn was involved in the search for a new chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission, a crucially important position for activist investors such as himself.”

Someone who believes in the sanctity of the market as it existed before the Securities Act of 1933 and the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, that kind of meaningful reform.

They won’t be all that happy when health insurance disappears at anything resembling an affordable price. When Social Security checks shrink (I just got notification that this years SS check will grow by 0.3%. They said to keep pace with the cost of living. So this is a good notice. Apparently.
I think liquid shit is about to hit an industrial sized fan spinning at 11. And very suddenly those folk who thought trump was a brilliant businessman are gonna be changing their minds.

This is the same Icahn who bought TWA only to destroy it even though employee groups were begging the company to let them give back salary so they’d have something resemble a job.

@darrtown I got the same notice. My payment remains the same as this year’s, so I think the Medicare premium rose a little.

If Trump himself went on national TV and told his supporters that they were just the latest suckers he’d conned, at least 40% of them would be certain that “the government”, or “the elites” had threatened Trump and forced him to say those things. Another 40% would be “not sure” if Trump had been forced.

There are always those who are ready to believe a dream. To believe with their whole being without the least shred of measurable evidence. To accept bullshit as something that smells like roses. An example is Orly Taitz. She is utterly and incontrovertibly convinced that Obama, before he was born, thought he would be president and he told his parents so on the day of his birth in Kenya. She probably also believes there are space alien lizard people living in tunnels under Denver Airport and abandoned Walmarts across several southwestern states. If Alex Jones says so it must be so. Cuz it was on the internet.

:His help on the strangling regulations that our country is faced with will be invaluable." Yes, those darn strangling regulations" that keep Americans solvent. I can imagine what sort of “help” Icahn will offer.
