Discussion: Bill O'Reilly: Jon Stewart Was Right About Historical 'White Privilege'

Discussion for article #229231

If concentrated derp in its purest form could be carefully titrated and solidified, sculpted into the form of a tall, ugly and irrationally angry white man, then given life with magical pixie dust, unicorn farts and Teatroll wishthink, then you would have Bill-O, the Derp Golem, stationed for all eternity at the Gates of Denial as gaoler of the conservative hivemind.

“So Stewart is right that there was a period of time but the mistake he makes is that there was some kind of privilege associated with living in Levittown,” O’Reilly said. "He’s making it out to be Bel Aire.

Bill O’Reilly: “I’m King of the Strawman!!!”

So the “right available only to a particular group of people” (i.e., whites) to buy houses in Levittown is not a “privilege” in O’Reilly’s mind. So basically … he needs a dictionary?

The fact that he’s still talking about it demonstrates that O’Reilly knows Stewart has put one of those punctures into the bullshit bubble that could lead to full on existential crisis.

Yes, and Bill-O is the GOP/Teatrolls’ little dutch boy with his finger in the hole.

Bill’s like an old neurotic dog endlessly licking that sore spot on his hind leg until the fur’s stripped and an ulcer forms, an ulcer named Jon…The smug Jewish comic ulcer that gave poor, little Tucker Carlson psychogenic alopecia. No wonder Chunk Toad still isn’t house trained…

Here it is Sean:

Any reasonably alert high-school debater would instantly spot the switcheroo on the meanings of the word “privilege.” But Jon Stewart wasn’t in the room, and neither were any alert high-school debaters, so O’Reilly could get away with this crap once again for the eleventy-billionth time in his cheap, shoddy, two-bit wise-guy career.

Bill is ‘ADORKABLE’…LOL

Privilege doesn’t mean that the person didn’t work to get what they have or where they are. It means that certain things that one group takes for granted isn’t available to another group. Levittown is just part of one example. The other part is that the GI Bill that allowed white veterans to get these homes – was less available to blacks.

“But that was then and this is now,” O’Reilly, or someone in his mindset may say. To that I say three words that O’Reilly does not understand: “Past is prologue.” This wasn’t the first case – or the last – of discrimination. Those actions (or lack actions in this matter) has consequences that continue down the road.

And if one feels more inclined to hear about the here and now, one example of white privilege is being able to live in any area that one can afford, and get a fair deal. A black person may be steered from buying a home in a particular neighborhood by a realtor – or altogether not shown homes – whereas a white person with the same income and credit rating will not get such misdirection. Also lenders will treat the aforementioned black buyer differently when trying to get a loan for a home in a white neighborhood. This still exists Additionally, under the same income and credit conditions, the black buyer is likely to have to get a mortgage at a higher interest rate.

Now no one is implying that the white person in this example did not work hard for their income or their home. The example is to point out that a person of color, under the same conditions, may not be granted the same courtesies. Now let’s not even get started on if the black person actually moves into this white neighborhood – despite working hard for their education, job and income, may be seen by the local law enforcement as a potential criminal – thus getting “special” attention from them.

O’Reilly still incapable of learning, still incapable of admitting he’s wrong, still incapable of humility, incapable of seeing, incapable of understanding the truth.

This is news?

I haven’t seen anyone make this point yet, so I apologize if it’s already been discussed, but the clearest example of white privilege in today’s America is “The Talk

It’s a conversation that happens today. Not in Bill O’Reilly’s idyllic Long Island suburban memories, but today.

No, he needs a working fucking brain

no, it just means that it was a waste of time, but ratings gold. shit, it wasn’t even impressive.

O’Reilly: So yes, if black you were prohibited by law from living there. But there wasn’t any privilege associated with living there.

I’m wondering if he removed parts of his brain with a soldering iron in order for thoughts like that to make sense.

O’Reilly probably doesn’t realize it but he’s THISCLOSE to acknowledging that redlining was a major factor in the oppression of blacks that had long-term effects that would take generations to unravel.

Who is he saying this bullshit for? White’s know he lying and so do blacks

Great post. Plenty of research to support the contention that self-identified conservatives think differently than those of a more moderate or liberal persons. They’re just as intelligent in an IQ sense, but live in a carefully constructed world as you so well point out.

Yeah, but Bill O showed himself to be magnanimous in victory over that Jewish guy.

Indeed Jon was correct about one thing. Billo has no idea what he is talking about and he displayed his ignorance for all to witness.
