I think Bill has the wrong idea for what that really means.
Wanting equal pay for equal work, protecting Social Security and not wanting it privatized, wanting a minimum wage increase, healthcare for all, keeping jobs in the US, protecting voting rights, feeling like you have a say in democracy, etc…
Those are issues that I care about.
And in my opinion, that makes for a secure people, which in turn helps the country as whole.
And it is interesting that Bill did not present why Independents vote. Ya know, since he claims to be one and all. Hmmm.

So, this “the country” is a thing separate and apart from the people who live in it whose interests are separate from those of the people who live there? So, what, like, the land? Because if we’re supposed to vote for the land, then you definitely need to vote for the people who support environmental and zoning laws and national parks and endangered species protection. Or is it, maybe they mean some larger set of ideals, like, say government of, by and for the people and the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Because, again, not seeing the logic if that’s what Billo means.
Or could he mean some semi-divine symbolic imaginary parental entity all bound up with the land and with other purely symbolic memes like the flag and our Sacred Dead or . . . race? The Motherland or the Fatherland, depending on how you swing? Is that what we’re talking about here Billo? Some purely imaginary mystic inchoate conception where it just so happens that serving the interests of “the country” turns out to mean serving the interests of a cynical elite?
