Discussion: Bill Maher’s Idea For New GOP Slogan: ‘Eat Sh*t And Die’

Discussion for article #237958

That’s not a new slogan - that has basically been their slogan for years, but they disguise it using the terms “Liberty” and “Freedom”.

This shows how much the Republican party has changed. The first food safety laws were pushed through an obstructionist Congress by Teddy Roosevelt after Roosevelt read Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle.

How about this for a new GOP slogan: “You Gotta Die Somehow.”

Whereby Bill Maher learns, as The Onion has already found out, you can’t parody these people more than they parody themselves. That’s what’s made Jon Stewart so successful. He doesn’t try to parody them; he just runs the video and lets them parody themselves, merely throwing in an occasional “WTF?” or “bullshit”.

The Onion writes parody pieces that a couple of years later read like documentaries:

You Gotta die Sometime - Why not NOW!

Yeah wasn’t that one of Barry Goldwater’s campaign slogans…

On food labels in America, there’s an obvious omission. The label tells you Percentage of Daily Value (%DV) for Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium, Potassium, and Fiber. But the label gives you no idea of how much sugar you should ingest. The World Health Organization says it should be a maximum of 40-55g per day in a 2,000-calorie diet. A 12-oz Coke has 39g, a 20-oz Coke has 65g. – an entire day’s maximum of sugar. But the sugar and soft drink industries don’t want you to have that information, so that field on the label remains blank. Shameful.

“…and die”!!! More accurate, “Eat sh-- and ask for a 2nd helping.”

Impossible.

I hate that we’re usually on the same side of political issues. His nastiness taints everything he’s associated with. He’s the poster boy for superciliousness and wishful condescension.

“Eat S*it and Die”, a.k.a. “Eating What They’re Cooking”

On this one, Maher gets it right. Freedom from Information is the GOP’s slogan. Corporate profits always come first as far as they’re concerned.

Hes a COMEDIAN.
Not a politician, or a preacher, or a teacher.
Climb down off your Cross and laugh at yourself and others once in a while. It will do you good.

So’s Seinfeld. I find neither one funny. They both spend all their time making fun of those to whom they believe themselves superior. Neither one is superior to the median scumsucker.

There are many truly funny comedians; I have no problem enjoying their comedy. But shits like Maher and Seinfeld can go fuck themselves.

One example of a comedian I find worth watching is Jim Jeffries:

Another is John Oliver:

Do you really think Maher is in their league? De gustibus non est disputandum, I guess.

…brought to you by the same folks who were in hysterics about President Obama’s birth certificate.

None of the RDAs come from the WHO. Step one would be to get an RDA established for sugars by the USDA. Good luck with that. Step two is to get it on labels. Good luck with that.

Meanwhile, recent research has shown the maximum values for sodium are probably significantly lower than is neccesary. Nonetheless soup and other canned goods still tend to have way too much, especially if more than one helping is ingested per day.

I’m much more interested in having actual amounts on the labels (which are there now for sugars) than in some arbitrarily negotiated recommended values. Those who can’t decide for themselves given accurate information are not likely to be moved to compare the actual values to the recommended ones anyway.
