Discussion: Bill Maher Is Tired Of Talking About His Criticism Of Islam

Discussion for article #228916

Milt Shook at pleasecutthecrap.com put together an excellent op-ed explaining why Bill Maher is completely wrong:

In short, from the Milt Shook piece I linked, Islam isn’t the problem, it’s the abuse of Islam that is the problem. There are many Muslim countries out there that have elected a female head of state, and we’ve yet to elect a female President here in the US. Is that the fault of us being a “Christian” nation?

He’s not a mean-spirited person. He’s a comedian, he’s very funny. He’s smart, he said. He’s got a very perceptive outlook on a lot of topics but when it comes to religion he, like so many critics of religion – especially Sam Harris, just comes from a place of complete amateurness.”

Most times the clown will go too far before it becomes a tired routine.

Yes, it probably is.

I can’t recall a majority Muslim country that has elected a female head of state. Maybe you can enlighten me.

Try Pakistan. Remember Benazir Bhutto?

Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, for two terms.

I watch Real Time frequently. But this crap coming from Maher now makes me think twice before watching another episode. He’s right on a lot of things, but so wrong on things that are obvious.

I’ve never seen a time when Bill Maher was sick of discussing what Bill Maher thinks. He knows he stepped in it this time.

“I think liberals should stop booing me for pointing out that Islam is
not like other religions, that it’s a unique threat” Maher told Rose.

If you’re Palestinian whose people have suffered thousands of deaths of innocents recently and have the audacity to claim Jews are the unique threat, you get accused of anti-semitism.

But you can shoot your fool mouth off about Muslims and you expect – no, demand – to be left alone.

There are plenty of people of the Jewish faith, who, like many Muslims, decry wanton slaughter perpetrated in their name by a few hell-bent on murder. But you refuse to see that. That’s the textbook definition of bigotry.

EDIT: And, hey, no problem, we WILL continue to talk about it, bigot.

Egocentric dickheads with megaphones (even if they’re on our side of the barricades) hate being called out on their dickheadedness.

The Inquisition- let’s begin- the Inquisition- what a thrill! - Mel Brooks.

Maher needs to stop thinking that Islam is not like other religions. It is very much like Christianity and other religions. After all, we currently have a Prime Minister of India who apparently was responsible for the violent deaths of many Muslims. We have Christians who seek to purge the world of Jews and Muslims- and we even have Jews who want to purge the world of Palestinians.

Islam is following the same course that Christianity did, only about 600 years later. Let us not forget the Inquisition, the Crusades, the Witch Hunts, the Wars of Religion between Catholics and Protestants. The fact that the Crown of Spain funded Christopher Columbus not because they cared about finding new trade routes to India for spices- but because they wanted a way to send troops and ships around the world so they could attack Islamic countries from the other direction.

Then we have Christians today blowing up buildings, attacking mosques, and shooting doctors.

Islam and Christianity don’t seem that different unless you’ve bought into the fearmongering.

Come out of the closet and publicly say you believe it isn’t evangelical, fundamentalist, homophobic, anti-abortion, misogynistic Christianity that’s the problem, but it’'s the abuse it suffers from America’s secular culture. Truth is Islam is just as vile as Christianity.

LOL…you’ve framed BM’s bombastic perfectly as a “dickhead”. We should however give Bill Maher, a friendly smack across the head for stirring the “pot” and injecting some comedic dickheadedness into all of this.

First of all, no he’s not, unless he’s just ready to retire altogether. But as long as he wants to do his current job, then by definition he wants to provoke attention and controversy with himself at the center. And saying “oh, no, please don’t drag this out into yet another news cycle” is part of doing that.

But even if he were telling the truth: so what?
