Discussion: Bill Cosby Sues 7 Women Who Accused Him Of Sexual Misconduct

Discussion for article #243761

So…that leaves 43 other women he raped but didn’t or couldn’t sue him? Or was it he didn’t sue them? What a clown this guy is. Hope he loses it all either way.

Mr. Cosby, give it up. Just. Give. It. Up.

In the New Yorker, Jeffrey Toobin expects Cosby to end the year both in prison and destitute. If the overwhelming evidence that he’s a serial rapist is true, that is truly a deserved fate.

Can’t wait until he goes to trial anyways…and refuses to testify…after filing these bogus suits trying to harass these women into dropping charges. They aren’t going away. When you drug women so they can’t fight back, you’re a bigger coward than most rapists.

When your try to litigate your way out of trouble, you’re Trump.

i’m not a lawyer, but I understand that an attorney has a duty to disclose risk to which a client may be exposing himself by sustaining some sort of lawsuit. Surely his attys have warned him that his suit may open a can of worms.

I’m willing to bet that somewhere there are a few dozen perfectly rational lawyers and PR people who are saying to themselves, “Yes, this is a good strategy given our client’s situation.”

I mean, just because Cosby is a serial rapist doesn’t mean his money won’t still buy good help.

So it really makes me wonder what grisly alternative they’re contemplating if they DON’T countersue. I don’t know what the legal ramifications of this kind of move are, but apparently they’ve completely given up on rehabilitating his image. Even if women start recanting, it’ll just look like he bullied them into it.

Yeah, I can’t see this as a good move on any front for Cosby. He is in no criminal danger of prosecution, and it only opens him for discovery which would aid in forth coming counter suits against him by these women.

From a PR perspective, its a no win all the way around…it keeps the story in the press, which is bad all the way around for him, and if he wins, like you said, it will appear that he bullied them into shutting up and if he loses, well…it makes their claims look even more certain.

Maybe his lawyers think they can win and somehow preempt the women from suing him down the road. But that still leaves 43 other women, which will also be privy to everything that comes out in discovery.

Unless Mrs. Cosby has been riding him about this so long now, that he is doing so to show her “look, I didnt do anything…now will you take the pill and go back to sleep, please??”

Oh boy. I guess he has to do something, at least from his p.o.v. But isn’t this just going to keep it going in the tabloids forever? His brand was America’s dad, so he can’t then be America’s serial rapist of young, vulnerable women without losing his entire brand. People just never go away anymore, do they? I wish that were possible–shame leading to self-banishment. But his life IS the limelight, so losing that is something he can’t live with.

Is there any evidence that coming out as one of Bill Cosby’s many victims is a big moneymaker? I just can’t see the case working on merits. Go away, Bill.

Nothing says rapist dick like suing your victims!!

So why these seven and not the other hundred victims you raped?

My first thought was “What a jackass.”

My second thought was, “What if one of these women were lying?” Not that I support false accusations of rape, but what’s his defense? I’d absolutely love to see him try to explain, no, I didn’t rape THAT one. If I were the organizer of this group I’d be tempted to put in a ringer just to see him go batshit trying to defend himself.

“Seven of those 50 women are liars!”

Time for a new lawyer.

In a statement, Cosby’s lawyer, Monique Pressley, said the women’s “multidecade-old, false, uncorroborated, opportunistic allegations of sexual assault have caused and continue to cause him to suffer substantial injuries and damages” to his reputation and business contracts.

As a lawyer, I can tell you that the more adjectives an attorney crams into a sentence to describe the other side’s position, the more her side is full of shit.

I’m predicting that Cosby will drop this case as soon as someone explains to him that truth is always a defense for libel and when the jury sees thirty or more women testify to being drugged and raped by Mister Cosby, things will be much worse for his “reputation and character,” not better.

It’s all just too creepy for me.

The biggest changeb for me is when I watched Bill Cosby on old I Spy episodes. The thought I had watching every episode was a question. I wondered if he raped the actresses on th show.

Statute of imitations for libel is three years in MA and court fillings aren’t actionable. The lawyers for the women will have anticipated this move and told them not to make any public statements.

It will be interesting to see the actual complaint. The dates and times of the alleged statements have to be specified.

The chance that Cosby can prevail here is very very small. Particularly when his ‘Spanish Fly’ routine is out there.

What a sad ending to a guy that could have left a really great legacy and still gotten laid anytime he wanted. Why do we guys let the little head do so much of the thinking?

50 women coming out completely independent of each other with the exact same fabricated story is a mathematical impossibility. That is how I know Bill Cosby is guilty. The law suit just shows he is even a bigger monster then we ever imagined.
