LOL
So…
During the RNC, I found myself dreading the next day to come…
Just cringing at the thought of the next torments that would be sure to arrive —
But today, I am positively excited — Almost giddy in anticipation of tomorrow and hearing our President … Can’t sleep and don’t care —
HOPE IS RENEWED ! ! ! —
Because that was the word he used (as opposed to “powerful story,” etc.which are the TPM writer’s words). That is to say they are not scare quotes.
Quite predictably, conservatives are talking about it. Then Son of Eric chimed in. I’m scared he seems to be making sense too often recently.
Before Bill Clinton spoke I didn’t think he could give one of his signature stem-winding speeches. He’s looked so fragile for quite a few years. But he came through. Rachel Maddow is on some kind of kick about his talking about “hitting” on Hillary was shameful. Hello? They were college students and he wanted to take her out. Yes, he has a checkered past with women but it was nice to hear the story of his meeting and subsequent life with Hillary. They did stay together after all through thick and thin. It has been obvious from a lot of comments from dedicated dead-ender Bernie supporters that a lot of people do not know about Hillary’s long career helping children and women. They needed to hear this speech although many probably did not unfortunately.
He’s always been able to weave a truly compelling narrative. He makes it seem like he’s talking to you personally and not to an arena full of people. He does it better than any politician I’ve ever seen. A truly gifted speaker can give a stirring speech, and we’ve had so amazing speakers in our history, but what Bill Clinton does is rare still. Not many people have that gift. Obama has it, but it’s not quite the same as Bill.
"Highly-overrated would be the orange one. Oh wait…no one is “highly overrating” him.
I cried listening to him. I will always believe that Bill Clinton saved the Democratic Party. And I believe Hillary Clinton will be the steady hand on the rudder during these sometimes scary times. I hope some people listened to President Clinton tonight and heard what he was telling us about his wife. Facts and stories that most people do not know about - having only listened for years about the made up scandels - rather than the women she really is. We are fortunate to have her as our Democratic candidate abd we must elect her as our next President.
Not awkward at all. Seemed pretty damned normal to me.
I love Rachel, but sometimes she goes off on a tangent and latches on to an absurd triviality to the exclusion of all else.
Agreed - I said it here are few days ago that one more reason for me to hate Trump is because I’m now I a begrudging respect for Erikson! Redstate has had some of the best anti-Trump reporting of the season. (just stay out of the comments section…)
I love that man.
Rachel Maddow brought that up. I totally disagree. I’ve lived through all the media attention to his infidelities but I found his description of how he met Hillary and how hard he tried to get her to finally say “yes” to his proposals very human and funny. And I learned a lot more about Hillary’s efforts to help women and children. I knew some of her story but learned a lot more of it from Bill and that made me feel even better about her than I already did. The media will focus on Bill’s indiscretions as will the Trump campaign which has very little else to focus on.
Boycotting cable. Only watching PBS or C-Span. Too much drama on those other “news” outlets.
The Big Dog. The Big Vegan Dog.
Bubba brought it. Never ceases to amaze me how comfortable this man is behind a podium in front of an audience. In a way, you have to admit we’ve been blessed. Two totally different styles but masters of the craft…oratory giants with rasp and roar, respectively…have helped us overcome the entrenchant of half the country twice and given us chances we wouldn’t have maybe had were they not possessed of the iridescent charisma that carries elections and mesmerizes crowds. Being fair, HRC doesn’t possess that same innate quality or talent, and has a lot of unfair obstacles in the way of being perceived as such, but we can’t act spoiled now and not step up to fill that void as if it’s always going to be that easy. This one is more of a fight than you want to admit, and certainly more so than any sane and rational universe should tolerate, but with more at stake perhaps than before. Step up and do not relent.
Exactly.
Tragic when Trump has to focus on the set to brag about his car-wreck of a convention. His delusions are reaching new lows.
When Rachel Maddow mentioned this concern, Chuck Todd used the same rationale that Erickson did - namely, that the Clintons have stayed together all of these years and their stories are intertwined in a way that made this appropriate. Imagine agreeing with BOTH Chuck Todd and Erick Erickson!
Excellent 1st rate extemporaneous speech. Afterward Rachael Maddow whined about Bill’s story about courting Hillary which I found charming. Then some bald guy bleeted that Bill spoke too long and was boring. Screw the pundits. They wouldn’t be satisfied had Bill cured cancer and settled the Middle east just from that speech.
