BLAKE Act - Ha, priceless!
No not priceless, the cost is $84K.
Um. What if they’re still in Congress or don’t plan to lobby? Surely they could do something more direct such as declaring such payments to be the misuse of taxpayer money that gives rise at a minimum to personal civil liability or preferably to a felony charge.
Wouldn’t make it past the current Senate. Wait until we have both chambers and the WH to get this enacted.
The House will take up a legislation called the BLAKE Act—”Bad Lawmakers Accountability and Key Emends Act”—crafted to prevent lawmakers from using taxpayers’ money to pay out sexual harassment settlements without reimbursement, the signature move of now-retired Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX).
What a legacy to leave this country after your few short years of service…
How about “Tax money cannot be used to pay any personal claims or debts.”
Buy some personal idiocy/assholery insurance or something - and use your own money to do it.
Donald Trump would not sign it and would be willing to go to a Government Shut Down over this, as it would require him to pay his Hush Money to prior mistresses from his own pocket.
Perhaps they should all start charitable organizations to scam money to pay for their indiscretions, sexual assaults and other assorted crimes.,
Could be the way to go. I’m not sure the insurance industry wants to rush to market with policies meant to cover you if you want to go around sexually harassing people.
Let the rubes pay for it - not the rest of us.
Agreed. No chance if meaningful action happening these days. (The Democrats don’t always do enough to pat themselves on the back either.) Mine was sort of a rhetorical question. These idiots think that if they enact the oh so cleverly acronymed BLAKE bill, we won’t notice that they’ve barely covered first base, if that. They stop a little corruption here and there and enact special measures designed to affect the fewest number of their colleagues and allies, and say we should be thrilled at their actions. I say phooey!
The rubes like his voters? Could inspire them to more attentive citizenship. Like take a look at the son of a bitch, for Christ’s sake, he was born to harass employees.
As Barack Obama was ahead of his political peers in the technology of running a presidential campaign, Donald Trump and his children were ahead of everyone else in using Charitable Foundations and donation money to pay off Pam Bondi and then Texas AG Gregg (Jade Helm) Abbott to squelch investigations of Trump University.
And if they were truly clever, they would have figured out how to incorporate Farenthold into the Bill’s name.
That should apply to the Executive Branch as well.
When I read the headline I was hopeful that the proposed law would prevent Farenthold or people like him from being elected to Congress. No such luck.
But I would also note that the cute title makes no sense. The drafters mean “amends,” as in making better, not “emends,” which is a probably obsolete form of amend, as in change.
Ignorant fat fuck accomplished one thing of note
Nice legacy douchebag
Did you notice he couldn’t even keep a wingnut welfare job

I can’t wait to see who votes against it.
Could you imagine the premiums for Republicans on “Asshole Insurance” in the current Washington.
