OK I’m not even sure this is remotely close to a face-palm moment for Biden. He was talking about Packwood’s record with progressive causes. Sure maybe not the best example for a womens forum, but the point that there used to be moderate Rs on some issues was the point.

To be fair, back in the 1980’s when I volunteered at NARAL in Portland, Bob Packwood was a big supporter of abortion rights. We even gave him a crystal encrusted coat hanger as an award at a luncheon. He was a groper and a creep, but he did support abortion rights.

I was about to point that out, too. That’s what made it so painful for women’s groups to have to condemn him for his private behavior, because he had been a good legislator for their cause. But his treatment of the women around him could not be excused.

He’s really going all out lately, but for my money, nothing beats Biden telling the guy in the wheel chair, “Stand up! Let us get a look at you!”
