Discussion: Biden Checks In With Capitol Hill Pals Before Deciding On 2020

I would say that his chances of winning the nomination are as good as anyone who is already in the race. I hope he gets in.

He’s also been in touch with a doctor who claims to be able to take 20-30 years off your age with just three treatments.

ā€œAmong those he’s reached out to: Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL), both of whom have encouraged him to run publicly.ā€

Are there others encouraging him to run privately? I hope not, because that would be a sucky strategy.

Why not reach out to the people instead of these out of touch senators. Of course they would want one of ā€˜their own’ to run.

Joe Biden has a right to run if he wants to - it will be democratic voters that will decide the eventual nominee. And the variety of perspectives and interchange of ideas between the various candidates will help the Democratic Party develop and hone it’s platform for 2020.

And I believe Joe Biden, unlike some past candidates for the Democratic nomination for President, will be willing to get behind and actively support the Democratic nominee in the general election.

He’d should be a good president, but I hope he’s ready to have all his touching and hugging dragged out and claimed to be inappropriate and there are probably many more to come. All by folks that do the same and worse and claim they don’t, or just ignore it.

Better to get in and try rather than not try and regret as in 2016

Unlike his past attempts, things start a lot earlier now, so It’s likely he doesn’t make to to Primary season.

It wasn’t this guy, was it?

I don’t see Biden winning the primary. His strength is his name recognition and the party’s warm feeling as Obama’s VP. He is not on the forefront of the party’s current trajectory.

I think because we all love Joe, he would do well enough in early primaries to stay in for a while. This is problematic because it would dilute delegates early in the contests and probably hurt a newer candidate that’s less leaning left.

I’d myself think embracing more ambitious agenda and prefer someone going all in on MFA etc… but I want that to be the party’s choice and the primary can do that but I’d like to not have one side or the other start with a disadvantage because their side of the field was crowded and the other wasn’t…making for lopsided delegate yield in early primaries

I think a clean break from previous administrations will allow the party to work out its center-left vs left trajectory without a loyalty influence and we’d be better off.

That said Joe would make a fine president…

LOL, yep, he’s too old. His time was 2016 but I can understand why he didn’t run then.

Joe is too old to be a member of the baby boom. I’m a baby boomer and I’m too old to run for President.
Not that I wouldn’t be the bestest ever!

Say what you will about Joe Biden (and many will) at least he is ā€œauthenticā€.

What you see is what you get, ā€œgaffesā€ and all.

I hope he doesn’t run, as I don’t think his heart is really "in it’ and whomever becomes the nominee needs to be passionate about the task.

Either way, the more the merrier. Let the Primary Voters decide. That is why we have primaries.

Just go, Joe. Why don’t you find some nice young firebrand to support? I don’t think this is what the dem. party needs right now. New blood is needed. We don’t need to rehash the dem. politics of the last quarter century. I’ll say this as well, if people want change, the monster now in office appealed to people desire for change. I don’t see Biden as an effective candidate for new ideas.

Biden will be a strong candidate. Among moderate to conservative Dems he is a strong favorite. I do think that Brown and Klobuchar represent big threats to him among that group of voters. Harris and Beto are the two Dems who have the broadest appeal to all groups of Dems. Harris, because of her background as a pragmatic AG, is going to have strong appeal to moderates and conservative Dems too. Beto, if he runs the way he voted in Congress, can have a strong appeal as well. Therefore, Biden will have to run a strong race to keep his initial advantages. I think they’re all capable candidates. Another thing going for Biden is that Trump’s daily gaffe fest makes Joe’s gaffes seem less bothersome.

There’s a lot about Biden’s foreign policy and trade policy that I support and what I think is needed to reverse Trumpism and preserve American prosperity for future generations.

Electorally speaking, I see that Trump has lost a critical mass of WWC voters. If we get a good candidate, they’re not going back to Trump. Biden can argue that he is perfectly positioned to get those voters instantly in places like PA, WI, MI, FL, whereas the other candidates will have to work harder to get them. Electability and restoring sanity to American gov’t and foreign policy are his strongest suits.

His weaknesses: age, his ability to grasp the stakes, pandering to the myth of a bipartisan middle, and his past voting record.

He’d be good if he picked a young, ambitious VP (Harris, Klobuchar) and said he’s in it for four years to straighten out the piles of shit left behind by the Russian flavored griftopians and then retiring.

ā€œI’m running to get us back on the right path and then passing the baton to the next generation.ā€

At this point I just want a solid Dem who can WIN and I’ll worry about purity tests in 2024.
