Discussion: Biden Camp To Trump: You're Siding With 'Murderous Dictator' Over Former Veep

The response was great. Short, simple and it reminded people of both Helsinki and his overt and frankly bizarre affection for murderous thugs. This was a statement meant for voters not for political analysts or armchair strategists. It did what it was intended to do.

Your suggestion is, in fact, beneath the dignity of the office and I, and I’m sure many others, want the candidates walking the walk already, not just talking the talk.

I think that most people would prefer that the Dem candidate “walk the walk” once s/he wins – and until then, use every weapon in the arsenal, because there is no reason to unilaterally disarm against someone who won’t have a second thought about “going too far”.

I mean, “when they go low, we go high” was a nice slogan but a lousy strategy.

If Giuliani was openly talking about investigations in coordination with Ukraine, then most assuredly covert investigations are already underway.

Naw, he’ll just have Mulvaney add another “acting” to his title…

But remember, Donnie admires murderous dictators . . . and no doubt, would like to be one.

I’m pretty sure that was a mis-quote, it was supposed to be “When they go low, we get high”.

Regardless, though, this isn’t one of those cases. Taking the ‘high’ road would be to ignore it, just like I’m sure your mother at one point or another told you to just ignore bullies (unless you were the bully).

Addressing it professionally and head-on is the right way to deal with it. No need to drop into the gutter on language just because they do.

Well, we may not be “stuck” with Joe.

But if he wins the nomination, he can beat the shit out of Trump, and he would be a good president.
Maybe not great, but good.

People want someone with a calm, easy-going approach. And Biden’s avuncular personality could be just the ticket.

And I feel sure that he would surround himself with good liberal and progressive people, who would help him steer the country back to a more progressive path.

Joe isn’t my first choice, either—but we could do a great deal worse. Just think about it for a minute.

For me, I’d prefer that trump would have his passport confiscated at a foreign airport such that he is stuck in limbo and cannot return.
Or he is forced to show his tax returns in order to be readmitted to the country.

Good president is good enough for me.

Politics is the art of the possible.

While we all may have great fantasy candidates, that in different circumstances might be awesome, I’m rather convinced that this is not the election to fuck around with and be creative.

A “return to normal operating parameters” person like Biden may be exactly what we need to not go into Election night chewing our nails off.

And I think his lead is reflective of that fear, that we could fuck it up by not choosing the safe choice.

Sure there is: distinguishing yourself from them. I get it though…you guys have one paradigm into which you put everything, which is getting yourselves hyped up and excited with the idea that you’re part of an insurgency, be it within the Dem party/liberal movement or on a more national level. Fight fight fight rah rah rah. Biden behaving and talking like Trump in response to Trump behaving and talking like Trump does him no good whatsoever in terms of setting himself apart and sending the message that we can come together to be better than this, that as a country we’re failing right now because we are divided and focused on the wrong things, that we can do better as a nation if we’d just come together and act like one. That was the gist of his entire opening announcement and it’s a message that people are desperate to hear around the country. He should stick to it and behave accordingly. People want to see someone behaving like that and will take comfort in it.

I’m not saying he shouldn’t throw jabs and land the occasional haymaker when the opportunity presents itself, but words like “pathetic narcissist” aren’t necessary. He should take notes from Nancy and go with more oblique references to Trump’s mental health and intellectual acuity. We can fight he good fight…without mercy even…but that doesn’t require doing what Trump does. We don’t need to humiliate and denigrate Trump to win…as much as every bone in my body wants nothing more haha

And keep in mind the different standards that Dem candidates will be held to in comparison to the GOPers. GOPers will be given a pass in the media after acting like Trump. Dems won’t. They’ll be expected to be the adult in the room and if they fail in their expected role, it will be considered aberrant and earn them a week or more of “how could he?” and “what was she thinking?” and “did he just blow the whole election?” in the MSM.

These folks are so contemptible, I find myself smiling one on of them is made miserable (esp when by the hands of another of them - usually Trump.)

The photograph with the article is…well… precious.

And Laura Rozen’s pull out of a detail from the article is delicious.

If only the Purity Brigade could internalize that truism of American politics.

I agree with your comment most heartily.
I’m personally far more liberal than Joe (or most of the candidates) but above all, I’m a political pragmatist.

I want Democrats in charge—be they Progressives or Blue Dogs. It’s the only way to assure the survival of the Republic now that the GOP has gone completely to the Dark Side.

Once they’re in control of the whole government, we can argue about specific policies and how to get there.
But we’ve got to win first—and quite often that means electing people who are not as liberal as we are.

The far lefties don’t seem to understand that over 50% of the Democratic party is moderate, and only about 17% is in agreement with the far left.

Although the bulk of Biden’s campaign’s response was right-on in multiple ways (“To be on foreign soil, on Memorial Day, and to side repeatedly with a murderous dictator…"), this bit about “beneath the dignity of the office” is so weak and hackneyed it is a bit like “thoughts and prayers.” My suggestion is to not leave it generic and unowned, but bring it home to Trump: that “he abuses and besmirches the hallowed office of the presidency, is devoid of patriotism, and hero-worships murderous dictators. He is a disgrace to the nation.” I think that s better than “beneath the dignity of the office”.

mmmmm…with a drizzle of good balsamic…the expensive kind that’s almost syrupy…

Don’t forget the Japanese meeting with Trump were all wearing little blue lapel ribbons to commemorate the kidnapping of innocent Japanese civilians, some teenage girls, between 1977 and 1983. Abe was wearing the ribbons and Trump met specifically with Japanese families who lost family members to kidnapping during their visit. Trump’s defense of Un in this instance is tone deaf and frankly, horrible to contemplate. .
