Biden Called Booker To Smooth Things Over. It Didn’t Go So Well

The tales the Obamas could tell …

Methinks you’re right.

“suggesting that some of Biden’s primary opponents had worked with characters deemed offensive by Democrats, like former Attorney General Jeff Sessions”

What’s the point of doing so? It either means other senators are as good at reaching across the aisle as Biden (which diminishes his advantage) or suggests that it’s a shame to reach across the aisle (which is inconsistent with his pride in working with opponents). Not helpful either way.

If one has to obtain the support of a rival seeking the same ultimate prize, I think there may be a problem.

Good for him. Don’t back down from Sen. Booker.

Already tired of the purity tests. Can we advance the clock 12 months already? I’ll support whoever the candidate is, I promise.

Booker started it and he’s getting what he gave. Screw him.

It’s not logical. Not helpful to anyone.

I have mixed feelings about this, but I think Joe has been around too long . Those were different times and yes there were hard line segregationists that he had to work with , but remember there was a time with a president under investigation and Congress still managed to pass the EPA , Clean air act and OSHA. To get there ya you had to work with segregationists and racists
Booker and Co seem a tad desperate to make a dent in Joe’s lead grasping at anything

Biden is going to take another shot at mending fences. Word is he’s sending all of Booker’s campaign staff KFC gift cards.

Spoken like a true Son of the South.

Booker doing that doesn’t get him past Bernie, Warren or Buttigieg.

By bragging how he was chummy with segregationists? I must have missed that.

Incidentally, do you have any idea how the following comes off?

“Never called me ‘boy’; he always called me ‘son.’”

Can you see how preternaturally stupid it was for Biden to say it?

That I am. Lifelong Democrat too.

Oh, that’ll be swell!

You come across as a bit of an old racist Dixiecrat in your attack on Booker.

If the newer, newest crop of Dems are going to insist on purity tests then they need to agree where the line is on every issue.
Do I think Biden is the best candidate, probably not if all he has in his toolbox is what he has accomplished in the past. Is Booker the best candidate, probably not if he has these bright lines that disregard what has been accomplished in the past with people he finds offensive.

Yeah, you just can’t trust or reason with those people. At least that’s what I hear. From some people. Here, and there… People.

Do you think it was OK for Biden to refer to Jesse Jackson as “that boy” in an interview in the 80s being as he referred to Hart the same way? Incidentally, they are both older than him.

Quote from interview:

Jackson “is one of the brightest guys around,” Biden said in remarks made after a speech. “That boy ain’t no dummy, just like Gary Hart, that boy ain’t no dummy either.”
