Discussion: Beto Said To Be Leaning Towards Running Despite Relative Silence

I hate to say this but the Dem nominee, whoever that is,will be running against a GOP incumbent with all the structural, financial and logistical advantages that provides. In that sense,Beto is expendable. If he does this and flames out, he’s done on the national political scene. We here in Texas, need someone with his following running for state and Congressional offices.

If he runs, he’ll need to do better than the hideous video he put out last night after Trump’s Oval Office liefest. It was lit as if it was shot through a beer glass, O’Rourke menacingly loomed in the frame and he cut off the people he was with a couple of times. There’s help available, Beto.

Sorry, but only Governor and Senator are actual viable options for him now, at the State level. Anything else is a step down. And another run at the Senate is a lot less likely in 2020. So from where I sit, he either runs against Cornyn in 2020, or he runs for the Democratic nomination for President. Sitting on the sidelines for the next 6 years is akin to being exiled. The anvil is hot for him now, so I think he should go for it. Losing won’t be the end for him, and will, if he does decently (ie, survives beyond IA, NH and SC), will greatly improve the case for him as VP. And a VP slot might be the best situation for his career.

Heck, look at Jerry Brown. Lost the nominee for President and returned to Governor of California

There really isn’t an obvious choice for a 2020 Dem candidate, but there are some obvious non-starters. Sorry for the blunt reality check, but Kamala Harris isn’t an option, nor is Warren or Klobuchar. The bushel of 2020 hopefuls will be hard to winnow. I guess it’s a winnow of opportunity. Beto has huge promise but he may be a bit too green for nationwide office. He’s the green candidate.

What a bizarre comment.

We can agree to disagree.

California is a thoroughly blue state.

He’s waiting for Oprah to pronounce whether or not he is suitably deferential to elder liberals.

Jerry Brown’s career is hardly a model for any politician :stuck_out_tongue: And will not likely ever be repeated again.
