Discussion: Beshear: "The Phrase 'Obamacare' Has Been Demonized"

Discussion for article #224007

I couldn’t disagree more. This was the GOP’s intent but it is slowly backfiring. The day will come when the term ā€˜Obama Care’ will be held in similar esteem as the Marshall Plan

That might be the understatement of the year. According to Michele Bachmann Obama-care will kill you.

I have a really difficult time imagining the incredibly ill-informed person who thinks that the Affordable Care Act isn’t Obamacare.

I think Beshear is simply wrong.

The word ā€˜Obamacare’ was MEANT to be a critical demon but NOW it has turned into one of the greatest gifts the GOP has guven us. Just by its use it shows that one party cares about getting affordable health care for people while the other doesn’t. Cause freedom.

The brainwashing of Faux news and the Republican sound machine is far more scarier than the ACA. Fortunately many people have been helped, but the ugly name calling is still rampant.

Proof that a segment of the population’s reason for opposing the President’s move is because they HATE the president and not because of his policies.

Really?

Go take a walk through a mall. Or better (worse) yet, a Wal Mart.

No, he’s right, at this moment in history. Obamacare was intended as a derisive term. The GOP-compliant MSM went ahead and adopted the GOP language, as they always do, so Obama just went ahead and owned it. It still is derisive to call it Obamacare. If it succeeds, it will lose that distinction, but don’t ever fool yourself that branding it Obamacare wasn’t an attempt by the vile racist GOP fucks to give a negative anchor to something full of things that people, even stupid teabagger fucks, would otherwise embrace.

Actually, it’s easy to imagine. They’re called Fox News viewers.

and listening to crazy eyes micheal backman will kill brain cells

Um… was Beshear asleep for the late 2000s? The term ā€˜Obamacare’ was wholly created as a partisan insult, an attempt to remind people of the failed ā€˜Hilarycare’ plan. Obama decided to embrace the term to strip it of some of its negative power, an effort that’s worked. Beshear is right that using the term ā€œACAā€ or ā€œaffordable, comprehensive, fair healthcareā€ goes over better with people, but he’s missing the history of the term.

The right-wingnut meme machine works great for things like global warming, something where the immediate impact is hard to understand. Evolution, similarly – while anybody with half a brain could see that it’s real, it’s not immediately apparent to people who want to not-believe.

On the other hand, Obamacare affects everybody immediately, deeply, and pervasively. While it was still a theoretical concept, the GOP could make up anything that they wanted; but now that it’s a reality that affects people, they can no longer do that without looking like idiots. It’s going to take some of them longer than others, but the right-wing talking point writers will get everybody together pretty soon. After all, you don’t want these people thinking, making their own decisions, right?

He was explaining why KYians embraced healthcare reform despite being such a conservative state. It’s largely because early on Beshear began referring to anything involving the ACA as Kynect, the name of KY’s exchange. He also promoted it unabashedly and made it his mission to get the word out. For KY, Obamacare has been a Democratic dream come true.

This is the fault of US news media which doesn’t educate the public because the media’s purpose is to make profit for shareholders and not to educate the public.

I can’t wait until conservatives start complaining about the term ā€œObamacareā€, because it unfairly gives all the credit to Democrats…
