Bernie Sanders Thinks The GOP Debate Was âPretty Sadâ
I would have gone with âpathetic,â but yeah, âsadâ works too.
Not as sad as Ann The Man thought it was.
How about âthe f******* jewsâ? Do you know what they thought?
You tell 'em, Senator.
Have you heard anyone use the word âpovertyâ yet? 47.7 million Americans living in poverty. No discussion.
I donât think he would have liked the answers.
Once again, the only person in that room that I might trust with the nuclear football is John Kasich. Sadly, I note he got almost as little applause for his âwork with our alliesâ approach as Rand Paul did for pointing out that by overthrowing secular regimes, weâve created openings for Islamic extremists, sectarian conflict, and terrorism. Nope, sorry boys, weâre just gonna arm up, go it alone, kill all the terrorists, frighten the rest of the world into submission, and then the Pax Americana will bloom. Simple as that.
Congratulations. You just described the Teabagger platform.
All the talk of beefing up the military, all the chest-thumping and saber-rattling and pounding the drums of war, and as far as I can recall, just one quick phrase about veterans, by Fiorina, as an afterthought.
So disgusting.
Kasich did very poorly tonight in my opinion. He wasnât sharp, he was offering up salad to a crowd wanting red meat, and he didnât get those home town cheers he had last time.
And he really needed to have an excellent outing. He didnât, so my guess is, we will see his support start to drain off in the weeks ahead, both in voters and donors. Gone before Iowa.
Sad, indeed! Can you picture one of those people as the face of our nation presented to the world?
Oh my god, itâs finally happened. Ann Coulter said something I actually agree with. No, not that. This:
How to get applause from GOP donors: 1) Pledge to start a war 2) Talk about job creators 3) Denounce abortion 4) Cite Reagan 5) Cite Israel.
I can picture many things that Iâd rather not. These would be among those things.
Youâre exactly right! I thought the most sane, rational commentary was when Rand was talking about how Iraq/Syria got messed up and discussing criminal justice reform, and when Kasich was talking about working with allies and not tearing up the Iran deal. But what gets the loudest roar? Bush saying his brother kept America safe and when Fiorina implies her daughterâs death was linked to marijuana addiction.
I agree, Kasich did not stand out, other than by being less crazy on the foreign policy stuff â and thatâs the opposite of what the red-meat-craving Republican base craves.
But the âif not Trump, who?â question seems as hard as ever. Bush? Another pretty lame performance, his biggest applause line was for his brother âkeeping us safe.â WalkerâŚnope, going nowhere. Carson? Really? Fiorina? I donât see it, but who knows. RubioâŚmaybe? Ted Cruz? Yikes. Christie? Please. All I can say with complete confidence is that it wonât be Rand Paul. And I wouldnât bet much on Huckabee or any of the less-than-1%ers in the kiddie table debate.
My only concrete takeaway is that Christie, Paul, and Huckabee destroyed their chances tonight, and that Carson was as horrible as he always is. Paul made sense on a lot of issues, so heâs toast. Because those stances arenât ones that the GOP base endorses. Huckabee and Christie both sounded desperate, IMO.
We did hear about poverty⌠sort of⌠about how evil the min. wage is. (heavy sigh that such statements are not political poison with half the electorate).
Walker also came across as sounding a bit desperate, I thought. And his situation is desperate, heâs been in a deadly tailspin for many weeks now, and risks kiddie-table debate status next time, if he continues the way heâs going. And I didnât see anything in this debate to change that dynamic. I guess he can stay in as long as he has the money to stay in, but even the Kochâs may tire of tossing away their spare change on his dwindling chances.
I think Rubio helped himself the most tonight.
What is evident from tonightâs debate is that most of the Republican candidates want to turn the U.S. into a terrorist state
Speaking of hometown cheersâŚI couldnât figure out why none of Trumpâs zingers were landing with the audience, even though his voters were clearly running up the numbers in online polls. Itâs because they were in CA at the Reagan Library where many more Republicans are likely to be establishment, neocons, moderates, and fiscal conservatives. This was not Trumpâs crowd nor was the audience reflective of the Republican base. This would be akin to holding a Democratic debate in KY or WV where the biggest applause lines go to Jim Webb.
