Discussion for article #239695

Once again, feel the Bern.

There was a time you could tell a Democrat by their uncompromising support for Social Security, but now days Bernie Sanders seems to be the only one defending Social Security; even President Obama has been willing to use Social Security as a bargaining chip to get what he really wants from Republicans.

So far, the only mention of Social Security I’ve found on a campaign website is Bernie: “At a time when elderly women are more likely than men to be living in poverty, not only do we say NO to cuts in Social Security, we will expand Social Security.” Which is not exactly a full defense of Social Security, unless it can be treated as a “women’s issue”.

Of course I found no mention of Social Security at all on Hillary’s website. I guess she’ll take a stand as soon as she figures out which way the political winds are blowing, but clearly Hillary will not be leading on this issue.

It would help if the candidates enable a search function on their websites, rather than burry issues like this in verbage and in topics only tangentially related to them.

Greed, misogyny and bigotry-- this is what we’re fighting against.

Which side are you on?

Finally someone at TPM realizes there is someone out there running besides T.Rump and his companion Yahoos. Yes you drop Hillary’s name in occasionally, but she isn’t the “perfect” candidate of our times. It would be such a relief to see some positive coverage of Mr. Sanders since the main stream completely discounts him and the GOP disdains him, thinking they can run him over.

Was’t that Hillary’s and the main stream’s response to Obama his first run?

O’Malley came out with a plan to expand Social Security this week. Warren has been talking about the same notion for a long time. There are plenty of Dems defending it. Its a pretty solid progressive point.

As far as Obama, he hasn’t actually done anything to hurt Social Security directly. But his offering it up as a bargaining chip repeatedly is a concern, as it sets a precedent for future less progressive Presidents.

3000 at a rally in SC, of all places! I wonder when pix of the rally will be posted? My guess the attendees were not all white. When Bernie begins to ignite the enthusiasm of minoritys, watch out!

That really is an bullshit meme from emoprogs. Obama would NEVER have done anything to endanger social security. It would never happen.

Bernie has listened to BLM, His stump speeches are always great but far more inclusive now. I honestly wished he could be our nominee.

Thanks.

The theme of the article is the Koch Brothers and Bernie Callin’ 'Em Out.

That is what should be reported upon, analyzed and stressed.

Bernie, Joe, Liz, Hillary are, any of them, several galaxies better than Jeb Bush and the rest of the G.O.P. Klownz. Old Man Bush (the “Compassionate Conservative”) gave us Clarence Thomas, an individual so debauched he would rule on slavery and make it Constitutional.

He makes sense. Seems as most of us do. know that the whole system is bought and paid for with continious kickbacks.
But in the end, Money matters and Bernie will never have enough of it to fight what is coming his way if continues to succeed.
reality

Were the Koch Brothers to respond honestly, they would reply: “Thank you! Because…”

I myriad ways, it is a word which literally defines the Republican Cult in its current depraved and devolved state.

Hillary is a Democrat running for the office of The Presidency. An office she has had more firsthand knowledge of than any other candidate and she’s been a Senator and SOS. She doesn’t need to see which way the wind is blowing on SS.
You shouldn’t take the lack of her prioritizing it as a problem and just be happy that she isn’t messing with it.
Social Security is a sacred cow. Messing with it has always been a sure death move and despite the chatter, Obama hasn’t touched it and I seriously doubt that Hillary would either.

The Kocks will respond. They always do because they are thin skinned a-holes that have more money than balls.
Harry Reid went after the Kocks and got no where, I think Bernie could do a lot more damage to them. Just bringing them up has got to worry the Kock Bros and mess with their sleep and that alone is a good thing.
