Discussion: Bernie Sanders Accepts Fox News' Dem Debate Invitation

I could see this quickly turning into a tag team environment where Clinton is taking hits from Sanders and the moderators.

Moderator: Sec. Clinton, your husband signed the 1994 Crime Bill, a bill you thoroughly supported. Many say that law is directly responsible for the incarceration of millions of African Americans. When you enthusiastically supported that bill before it was signed into law, you referred to “superpredators”. Can you tell us what you meant by that? Where you specifically referring to African Americans?

Clinton: Well, look, both Sen. Sanders and I supported that bill…

Sanders: (holding up finger and behaving like a four year old who has to pee) Can I get in here for a minute? I want to say that I was completely misled by the corrupt administration of her husband and by then equally corrupt (but now more corrupt) First Lady, Mrs. Clinton. I was taken out back behind the WH and, much like Vince Foster, a gun was put to my head and I was told they would make it look like a suicide if I didn’t comply. I had no choice. I just wanted to get in there before she stated lying again as she always does about everything ever.

Clinton: Whaaaat?

Moderator: Sec. Clinton, so you acknowledge you threatened to kill Sen. Sanders if he refused to vote for your husband’s bill designed to enslave black Americans?

Clinton: I didn’t say that, this is rid…

Sanders: Thanks you, Mr. O’Reilly. I still get chills thinking about that day and the pain they would’ve inflicted on my family, all so that they could get their bill passed in order to unwind the 14th amendment.

Realize most of the Bernie or Bust folks aren’t going to vote for Hillary or Dems no matter what. They’re either Green Party/Socialist type party supporters who thought they’d be able to hijack the Democratic Party to their cause, nominal Democrats who never actually vote in elections, disaffected GOPers who are “independent”, or just plain “anarchy/revolutionary” types who could give a crap about the election other than for the fact that the Bernie (aka “the socialist”) is in it.

I don’t think there’s much Hillary or anyone else can do to convince them.

Bernie might have a chance [of convincing them to support Hillary], but that’d mean admitting that his “revolution” has lost. We’re nowhere near him being able to accept that. This would just be Bernie being a total jerk/prick on national television, and doing everything possible to try to take down Hillary. Because pricks, especially of the self-styled “revolutionaries” whose “revolution” has fizzled variety, tend to be deluded egotistical asshats… which what Bernie is right now.

I was just thinking last night that we wouldn’t have to have any more debates, because it would be useless at this point.

Ratings, people. Ratings.

Perfect time for Clinton to come out and explain why no Democrat should ever appear on Fox News Anything.

Sanders really working hard for a spot in a Trump admin.

Yea, if there has to be one more debate any of the other networks would be more than happy to offer a more balanced environment. If one needs any proof where FOX interests lie, Megyn’s Trumpian hair plunge psychodrama should fit the bill…

I agree with you there. At this point, I really think Trump is the only Republican Hillary could beat in the fall, her numbers being what they are.

That being said, previous agreement or not, Hillary should not agree to this debate. Let supporters of Bernie’s ideas vote for him, but the race is over and we shouldn’t pretend it isn’t. She needs to be spending 100% of her time on Trump. She can safely ignore Bernie at this point, since he can’t win the nomination. I voted for Bernie back in March and I don’t regret that vote for a second. But he lost. It is time for the party to rally behind the nominee.

I have spent the last three weeks trying to rally democrats to Hillary here in Dallas. It is really hard. Most people I know voted for Bernie. They aren’t holding out because they think he has a chance to win, and most of them don’t like him that much. But 30 years of Hillary hate is hard to overcome. They would be hedging regardless of whether or not Bernie ever ran. People don’t like her. They always come around with “At least she’ll be competent.”

No. He. Doesn’t. It’s not mathematically possible.

He has as much as a chance of winning as he does as marrying Trumps wife.

I’m agreeing with you. Forget the Berniacs, they’re less than useless at this point. This can’t help Sanders either. He’s finished with everyone except the hardcore dead end cult members.

But then what? Does she really have enough votes without them to carry her over the finish line? I don’t know. I do know that KY was a razor thin margin.

EDIT TO ADD: Seems like it would be rather ironic if this whole fiasco ended up pushing Clinton to the right because she felt like she had to get the additional votes. I’m not trying to “concern troll” at all. But I’m really not sure if she has the votes to get over the finish line by just telling Sanders to go pound sand.

I think she should accept. Considering the things Sanders has been saying lately, it will be excellent practice for debating Trump in the fall debates.

I have this chair he could debate…

well, maybe not so much…

sorry Clint :person_with_blond_hair:

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I modified it to “Bernie might have a chance [of convincing them to support Hillary],”

Bernie has about as much a chance of winning the Primary at this point as I do of being declared King of England.

Is this for 2020? I’m all for it!

Hillary should agree to debate…Donald Trump.

My bad! Sorry. It’s just that I really, truly think giving Bernie another crack at a nationwide audience at this point is a really, really bad idea.

Ah! Okay.

King Sanders. I wonder if some of his followers would have gone for that?

A friend of mine who lives in Burlington told me 20 yrs. ago that Bernie was a horse’s backside. I will never doubt him again.

Here’s the thing I keep coming back to…Since this time last year, HRC has had the entire Republican Party and half of the Democratic Party attacking her. The big guns in the party have had their hands tied behind their backs unable to defend her too vigorously for fear of upsetting Sanders’ supporters. She is also stuck in a primary against an opponent who refuses to lose even though he’s already lost, an opponent who has done everything within his power to continue making her and the Democratic Party itself unacceptable to his voters. Meanwhile, Trump has been able to lock down his nomination and start the work of bringing his party together. These aren’t normal times.

Also, as to “people don’t like her” that’s a MSM canard that flies in the face of all available long term evidence. There are some who don’t like her, but her approval rating as SoS was more than 70%. She’s also been the most admired woman in America for like the last three decades. “People don’t like her” is just not true.

No, I hear what you’re saying. I really do. BUT…

Will the Indies (who are nothing more than embarrassed Rethugs) vote for her without her “speaking” to them in some way? As everyone here knows, it’s numbers game. It’s about getting more people to pull the lever for your side than theirs based on however you can convince them. I think she’s done everything in her power to move to the Left. Any farther and she starts to alienate more people than she can take in.

@pluckyinky I agree she’s admired but - is that going to be enough to get a crossover of people to vote for her?
