As is so often the case, the truth will end up being a bit too nuanced for the RWNJ’s.

Fundamentalist Islamic extremists saw an opportunity - they realized that they could whip up a mob, get them riled up about an anti-Muslim video, and steer them in the direction of the U.S. consulate, pitchforks and torches in hand. Just another way to strike out against the Western Devils.

Was this some well thought-out al-Qaeda operation? Sure doesn’t look like it. Was the American Ambassador targeted for execution? Again, it doesn’t look like it. He and three others weren’t dragged out and shot, their bodies paraded through the streets. They died of smoke inhalation while in a “safe room” in the consulate, tragic casualties of the fire.

So, do you call this “terrorism” or just “mob violence?” Does it make any difference?

Could the U.S. have prevented this? Not without a lot of extra security, not just for embassies (this wasn’t an embassy), but for all consular offices. The Congress rejected Administration requests for more such funding.

Could the U.S. have foreseen this specific attack? Doubtful - there’s no evidence that the planning for this attack took more than a few hours, on the spot. It was opportunistic, not strategic.

Could the U.S military have intervened during the attack? No - the real world is not a Delta Force movie.

You just provided one of the best summaries of the situation that I’ve read - but you are also correct that the RWNJs won’t be able to accept it (since it doesn’t fit their hoped-for scenario)

The reason he sat with his hand behind his back is because Muslims can still get into virgin heaven if they keep their fingers crossed while lying which this cat is doing to protect his fellow Muslim Obama. Heard it on RWNJ radio and it really made me angry. We should just waterboard him and be done with it. Isn’t Chloe Kardashian pretty in white?
