“RHINO!!” - Tea Party response
Well color me surprised.
" but more importantly it’s there because if we ever have a rogue government that wants to dominate the people the people will have the ability to defend themselves. We must always protect that right."
No, it is most emphatically not there for that reason.
This is a relatively new interpretation that is being pushed and has no validity whatsoever.
These clowns should read Nocera: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/27/opinion/nocera-right-to-bear-arms-means-this.html?partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
Careful, Ben. That’s a pretty slippery slope.
“It’s there for a reason because it would give the populace the ability to assist the military in case of a foreign invasion but more importantly it’s there because if we ever have a rogue government that wants to dominate the people the people will have the ability to defend themselves.”
Yes, because if the government comes after you with all its power and resources, you’ll be able to fend them off with your personal arsenal of weapons.
Careful Ben. The attorneys for Rocket Launcher Vibrators are on the phone.
OK, he’s out of the running.
Next!
Well, that was mighty white of ya, Ben!
I think my ex-gf has one of those.
I knew one of these days he was going to go full European socialist anti-god foreigner marxist communist hitler fascist moon-landing-believer.
If more Republican men had rocket launchers in their pants, they wouldn’t need so many guns
Funny, that is contra to the absolutist world-view the NBRA nuts adhere to. It is also would be more effective (but not by much) in the context of the fever-dream basis upon which the gun-butters feel they need to have their pea-shooters… to defend themselves against the United States Government (not that even RPGs would protect them against our military if it ever was unleashed).
This guy has to make up his mind; is he totally insane or not?
And their pea-shooters won’t do squat (though an RPG might do slightly more) in their Red Dawn fever-dream delusions I might add.
So Carson is actually arguing against his own delusional rational for guns in the first place since the RPG is more in line towards his core rational for firearms than handguns are.
But, but, but… FREEDOM???
This is the stupid part to me. If you really believe the 2A is about the ability to resist a tyrannical government, then you certainly do need rocket launchers. You need artillery and AA guns and Stinger and TOW missiles. Hell, you probably need tactical nukes. If you are seriously making the argument that you need weapons to resist the tyranny of the US government, a 5.56 rifle is not going to do anything to that end.
We live in a different time, no doubt. We don’t have state militias that can resist the feds, and there is now a standing federal army with much more than muskets. The 2A simply does not apply at this point as it is written (thus the Heller decision).
I get the idea of an argument for personal ownership of firearms. I don’t get how that would be justified as a check on tyranny, unless you really go to the crazy extreme of that extending to actual weapons that would be effective at accomplishing that (nukes).
This take by Carson is just really stupid to me. It’s totally about appeasing an irrational delusion within the conservative movement and has nothing to do with reality.
Too late Dr Carson. Here in Tucson on 1st Avenue there is a liquor store that for decades has parked various military vehicles in front of their store. up to and including a half track mounted with a “Ma Deuce” machine gun, a variety of trucks, and a WW2 era Sherman tank complete with a rather large gun in it’s proper place. making it look quite formidable. This being Arizona, the state with probably the laxest gun laws in America, nobody has complained about that tank in the neighborhood, to my knowledge.
And I am quite sure there are some seriously large collections of large bore weaponry in folks’ homes here. Rocket launchers included. Not that it makes any logical sense.
Here, clearly-- Dr Carson is practically begging sane individuals everywhere to remove the “-savant” portion of their opinion of him.
