Even if it is factually correct, the majority of Americans do not think of themselves as stupid, and will take insult at being called stupid. Thus, it is something only a bonehead running for office would say that would get them into real trouble.

Yesterday, I heard a respected commentator say he is convinced that Dr. Carson has no interest in being President (hence his total disinterest in how government actually works). The claim was that he is an incredibly smart huckster who is building a future market for himself and is willing to say or do anything for the $$$. We typically hear how sincere Carson is - but this commentator’s assessment makes more sense to me.
