Discussion for article #228577
Wouldn’t fixing it require that Republicans actually generate ideas?
That’s a tall order.
Are candidates running ads showcasing the positive aspects of the ACA?
Seems that would be better than agreeing things are wrong with it and it needs fixing. I mean a lot of laws can be altered to be better but it the foundation is good why not tout that?
Crossroads ad: “Mark Begich votes with Obama 97% of the time”
I had no idea President Obama was on the ballot in November. And besides, it’s not as if Republicans aren’t partisan either, which of these Republicans actually broke with their party against the gridlock/obstructionism?
You can fix the broken parts of the law, but you can’t fix the Black part of it.
Imagine an occupation where one can criticize something extensively. And then, when asked for viable suggestions, go mum.
This type of occupation does not exist in the Military, in corporate practice, in academic circles. It only exists in American politics, specifically, Congressional Politics.
And it only does so because the Fourth Estate is deeply invested in the Permanent Horse Race of what is now a Permanent Campaign, which is a feature of an Industry (with real, mostly geriatric, consumers) which is now just as real as the Banking Industry, the Petroleum Industry, the Pharmaceutical Industry, the Automotive Industry and the Entertainment Industry.
And which is an integreal PART of all of the above Industries
Here are two fixes
-
Allow Medicare to bargain with drug companies like the VA does.
-
Allow anyone at any age to buy into Medicare.
Why are Democrats constitutionally incapable of playing offense on this stuff? I mean, “Fix it” is fine, but you can’t go to voters with a flopsweaty message of “Okay, this law my party passed really kind of sucks, but c’mon guys, let’s make it better!” Just say “Hey, look at all the good this law does, and if you elect me I’ll patch the boo-boos, but the other guy wants you to barter chickens for your healthcare or something…”
He’d be better suited pointing out how Alaskans have benefited from the law, rather than this hand wringing. But I suppose it’s something.
I don’t know much about Alaska but from what I have seen the place is nothing more than a gigantic slum.
Republicans don’t care if Americans can afford medical care.
How about an ad that states “If the GOP had actually been willing to talk things over, work with us, and not force this bill to be rushed through Congress because they hate Obama and want to see the President and this nation fail no matter what, maybe we could have had a much better and more comprehensive piece of legislation than we ended up with.”
The truth about ACA is that everything wrong with it errs on the side of being too conservative. Democrats should be able to translate the truth into effective ads, no matter where.
Did you listen to the ad? I thought it was pretty good. It starts off by saying that before the health care law 1/3 of individuals were denied insurance for preexisting conditions. And then lists the concrete changes he voted for, some of which I actually agree with.
Except that the ACA was worked through Congress for almost two years. It was ANYTHING but “rushed”!
BINGO.
I tried but you said it way better than I did.
+1
Yes.
It’s stupid to not deny health care coverage for pre-existing conditions.
It’s stupid to not close the Medicade doughnut hole
It’s stupid to expand the menu of free preventive services to Medicare consumers.
It’s stupid offer free preventive services to all women.
It’s stupid to not allow insurers to gouge people with pre-existing conditions by forcing them to pay unreasonably high premiums
It’s stupid to allow adult children up to age 26 to get health insurance on their parent’s policies.
It’s stupid that health insurers must spend at least 85 percent of their premium dollars on health care
OMG how dumb!!!
what I don’t get the republicons saying that DEMOCRATS vote for president Obama’s policies 99% of the time or what ever figure they put up there well doesn’t it go to reason that you would want to support a democratic president if you say a democrat?? like republicons voted for bush policies that did this country harm 100% of the time
Especially hard to do when they only work five days per month (give or take).
To not find those things stupid you’d have to have a modicum of concern for your fellow person, and well…
