Discussion: Barry Goldwater's Widow Says He'd Be 'Appalled' By Trump

“She was [Barry Goldwater’s] second wife; she’s not his first wife," Hobbs told The Washington Post.

Hmm. Non sequitur.

She was his second wife; she’s not his first wife…

Very Trumpian style of criticism. Got nothing? Try a helping of ad hominem.

Will Melania be there? What about Calista Gingrich? Do third wives get a magic pass?

Trump will have to sue her.

As someone with great respect for, and memories of, Barry Goldwater, I have to say that Donald “the draft dodging coward” Trump wouldn’t qualify to drink out of BG’s toilet.

Owning the guy’s former house doesn’t give someone special insight into how that person would have voted. I think his 2nd wife might have just a bit more feel for BG’s views than some ass who probably never even met Goldwater.

You can leave his wife out of it and say that while most of us would have strong disagreements with Goldwater and be very much dismayed by one or two of the wilder comments he made over the years, you’d probably agree he was an intelligent and principled public servant. He wasn’t a venal, ignorant buffoon and after being appalled by Trump he’d have kicked his fat ass around the block three or four times. The widow’s got it right.

for that matter, the state GOP - whose offices bear Barry’s name - would kick him out of the party if he was around today. Barry made clear later in his career he had no problem at all with gays serving in the military, as well as his utter loathing of the Christian busybodies. In fact, I suspect today he would unregister as a Republican.

Trump is scheduled to hold an event Saturday at the Goldwater estate in Paradise Valley, Arizona, which will reportedly draw 75 donors with ticket prices starting at $2,700, according to the Arizona Republic.

This seems like pretty small potatoes compared to a George Clooney fund-raiser.

Attack her for being his second wife? Good Lord. Stay classy, Hobbs!

Tickets for the Clooney event were $353,000. and raised $15 million with a lot of smart, accomplished, good looking people in attendance. Quick calculation says this shindig may raise slightly more than $1 million, but a picture with the candidate? A bargain at $10,000.

Roughly 75 donors and supporters are expected.

The invitation to the fundraiser says the address will only be provided “upon RSVP.”

The fundraiser will command a $25,000 per-couple donation to be recognized as a member of the host committee. .A photo with the reality-TV star will cost a cool $10,000, according to an invitation Individual tickets cost $2,700.

Proceeds will benefit “Trump Victory,” a joint fundraising committee of the Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee and the GOP parties of 11 states.

Trump: Goldwater was a failure. All his wives are/were ugly. Mine are much better looking. I divorce them when they get ugly. I am the best. Trump TV is coming on soon to a channel near you.

Will Trump come back with the obvious response? “Who cares about the opinion of someone who LOST the election for the GOP. Vote Trump. Vote for the winner”

Truly, if Barry Goldwater were alive today, he’d be turning over in his grave.

If Yogi Berra were alive today, he might make that comment, for real.

and we’re going to support whoever the Republican nominee is.

That is conservatism in a nutshell: We have no principles, just an ugly habit because my White Daddy did it as well.

How many wives has Hobbs had?
For that matter, how many HOUSES has he “lived in”?

$10,000 for a photo of yourself with Trump, plus another $25,000 to have the negative and all known prints of the photo destroyed.

(I didn’t make it up. Henny Youngman may have.)
