Two things:
- define’”a while”
- is Rod going to be your scapegoat?
Let’s just play it by ear.
Apparently the full set of Barr offsprings are lawyers in public service,
Did he present them as hostages for the Barr name ? “I wouldn’t embarras them”
I actually like that answer
I like it too, I just don’t trust it.
Let’s hope he has the right incentives…You know what I mean
There are two possible explanations for Barr. (1) he is a Trump plant, will do Trump bidding (as he did shady things for Bush, Sr., greasing the pardons of Weinburger, etc), or (2) he was willing to take the job because he viewed it as a way of enhancing his reputation, by defending the rule of law.
Barr does not need the money, and my guess is that he is willing to defend Trump, but not if Trump is too far gone. To the extend that Mueller has the goods on Trump, Barr is exposing himself to serious criminal exposure if he went the John Mitchell route. see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_N._Mitchell
I am reading Barr being willing to take the job, ask Rosenstein to stay on, etc, in that he does not intend to Defend Trump from Mueller, i.e. he is looking to polish his reputation, not destroy it.
Obviously the D’s need to verify, not trust, but I am getting less freaked out about this by the hour.
and p.s. Clearly Whitaker was put in to try to kill the investigation. But once he refused to recuse, he then (it appears) did not interfere in the investigation. This says to me that even a grifter like Whitaker was not willing to run the risk of committing obstruction of justice once he was read in on what Mueller knows. If Whitaker would not do it, Barr certainly will not.
Me either. Too much partisan hackery in his history. I think we’re getting the answers we’d want to hear and it’s all a little too good to be true.
I would be EXTREMELY cautious about putting much weight into quite literally ANYONE that Trump nominates. Especially for this role. I do not trust this guy for a nanosecond and neither should you. Whitaker, to the best of our knowledge, has not substantively impeded the investigation. But that’s in no small part due to his absolute ineptitude and inexperience. This guy has proven himself far more capable. Don’t be an optimist. This guy is extremely dangerous and we are in perilous times. The ONLY thing you need to know is that Barr refused to accept the recusal determination of the DOJ ethics professionals. That is the only tell you need to know that we are in a world of trouble.
Marcy Wheeler has pointed out that Barr may be the best AG we can hope to get out of the Idiot in the WH. His history of pardoning the Iran-Contra gang is probably what the baby president likes about him. I am hoping that the treasonous nature of all the Mueller has unearthed cools Barr’s jets.
I’m sure, like all Conservatives, Mr. Barr will be an impartial umpire:
As more evidence of tRUmp’s treasonous* actions (and insane and sadistic nature) comes to light, one has to wonder about any semi-competent/intelligent people that are willing to join this Administration at this point. The risk to reward ratio is starting to go off the charts.
*Common usage, not as defined in the Constitution
I am pathetically optimistic sometimes, which leads me to think things like the following: Flunkies like Whitaker, Barr et al. start out as flunkies, but once they get a clear look at what Mueller REALLY has, they’re scared straight and decide to stay hands-off for the duration.
The occupant’s tendency to never refer to an elected or appointed official by their title ( Nancy, Chuck, Mitch et al) has spread to everyone who’s willing to sign onto the regime. There’s nothing more disrespectful because it diminishes that official and make the occupant seem, if only in his mind, that only his title matters.
“Rod and I have been talking about his plans.
Muller is so tight-lipped we’d never know if Whitaker is quashing indictments or taking other steps to impede the investigation. It will, by law, be included in a final report to Congress. But that’s AFTER the fact. Truth is, we have no idea whether or not Whitaker is doing harm. Not yet, anyway.
Crew Chief John Rogers, First Base Sam Alito, Third Base Neil Gorsuch, Right Field Line Clarence Thomas, and middle infield, Impartial Brett Kavanaugh. All making sure the GOP always wins.
Wonder if he’s given thought to what his legacy will be? Or what it won’t be.
