So Mueller was āformulating an explanationā. Whereās it?
Cuteā¦but it wonāt work.
The picture: William Barr is not honorable.
DUDE, SERIOUSLY? Youāre the frigginā Attorney General! Thatās what your job is. Your job is not to protect the President. Your job is to uphold and enforce the laws of the United States. If you canāt handle that, then resign. NOW!
Scuffle scuffle, harrumph harrumph, drag toe in dust, shuffle-ball-changeā¦at the end of the day there was no indictment. Nobody really knows why. Can I go now?
And of course, there is a Russian connection:
when Barr was a kid he wildly threw a ball through a neighborās second story window
- blamed the kid who had previously thrown him the ball ā¦ said he could not help it - the ball was rather difficult for him to catch ā¦ and refused to take any responsibility for his own hugely off target errant throw
Mueller intended for Congress to be the recipient of his Report and the organ acting upon the Report.
Agreed. I suspect Barr knows that too, but he really has no good cards to play here. His best play was to prevent the reportās release; there was sufficient push back from Mueller and Congress that that option was no longer tenable. His next play was to spin the contents; that worked temporarily, but with the actual redacted report being as damning as it is, perception of Barr is starting to catch up to the reality. His initial press conference was the high-water mark on the Trump-friendly version of events, and the tide has been receding ever since.
The guyās slimier than a sea cucumber, and I canāt stand what heās doing, but Barr didnāt have a lot of good options here.
Josh has a good essay on Barrā¦to the effect that, when Barr wrote the lying March 24 letter, he initially had (a) some credibility AND (b) some ability to make decisions at DOJ in Trumpās behalf.
With Barrās actions after the March 24 letter, continuing with the lying, redacting, misleading testimony and then culminating with the Mueller letter Breaking News of last night and now CAPPED by a performance today with more lies than words, Barr has no standing at all as someone who can level with anyone besides Trump himself.
He is a Trump Hack. Period. And all but the most lock-step GOPPERs know it.
He is, however, dangerous enough to cause damageā¦even as a Trump-Hack-Everyone-Knows-About.
WTF? Mueller made you do your ājobā??? Is that what youāre arguing? How the fk did you get the reputation you had? This is two year old crap. āNot my fault! He made me do it!āā¦
Barr is the poster child of todayās GOPā¦ zero integrity, zero ability to take responsibility for their horrible actions.
Itās always somebody elseās fault. Mueller made me lie!
Treasonous, hateful, greedy fucks.
I did not write or post this comment which in any case Bob Mueller made me write and post.
Three words: White Male Privilege (moreso if rich, educated and powerful)
That, plus greed, is quite literally what the modern GOP is about and ALL it is about.
Ironically, a childhood neighbor of Trumpās claims that when they were growing up, she was playing in her yard with a ball and it ended up in his yard, and he taunted her and refused to give it back.
Even as a child he was a bit of a monster.
Heck, even the lockstep Goopers know it ā they just see it as a positive.
Government by middle finger
āWe asked them a lot about the reasoning behind this and the basis for this,ā Barr said, of the March 5 meeting. āSpecial counsel Mueller stated three times to us in that meeting, in response to our questioning, that he emphatically was not saying that but for [a DOJ opinion barring the indictment of a sitting president], he would have found obstruction.ā
Isnāt there something significant about saying something 3 times? It just seems so specific, he could have said stated several time, but it was 3 times.
