When asked if Iraqis were going to greet us as liberators, he answered, “Absolutely.” He said, “Post-Saddam Hussein Iraq is going to be paid for by the Iraqis” with their oil wealth (the war ended up costing the American taxpayer upwards of $2 trillion). And my favorite: “There is not a history of clashes that are violent between Sunnis and Shias, so I think they can probably get along.”

The conflict between Sunnis and Shiites is the central dynamic of the Iraq conflict, of course. Yet today, the media once again seek out John McCain’s wisdom and insight on Iraq, which is kind of like saying, “Jeez, it looks like we might be lost — we really need to ask Mr. Magoo for directions.”

Poor Johnney…only Butters is still his friend. But they can still dress up in their army clothes together and wear their viet-nam era flack jackets in Johnney’s back yard and reminisce about the days when people were willing to go to war on his lies.

“Why does the news media go to John McCain to ask him any time there’s anything happening because you know he’s going to be, ‘go to war, send troops,’” Meeks said. “It just doesn’t make sense.”

Yes it does! Nobody’s crashed more jets—I mean, knows more about war, than Biggles McCain. Nobody!!

To a hammer, everything looks like nails. McCain was a warrior in his day. He jumped the shark in 2000 after the primary with Bush. He learned what it was like running with thieves - there is no honor. He sold out. I use to respect him, and felt for him after how the GOP treated him. He use to be a maverick - one of the few on the GOP side capable of original thinking. After the 2000 primary, I noticed a distinct change. It’s almost as if someone told him in confidence, ‘unless you get in line, you will never be president’. I guess he agreed.

Quite apart from McCain’s record on military matters, we should never—ever—forget that he selected Sarah Palin as his running mate. That’s was not simply an error in judgment; it was an act of utter disregard for the health and wellbeing of the nation.

McCain: "This thing's going to be over in three to six months."

Ah, the ubiquitous Friedman Unit.

Marginally less-valuable than the old Confederate Dollar.

And of course, we all saw how handily President McCain won the election of 2008, with the steadfast leadership and intelligent thought of Vice President Palin.

Personally I was against the war, but I acknowledged that “winning the war” would be relatively easy. My concern was that “winning the peace” would be much more difficult, and it was obvious that Bush et al had no ideas or plans for doing that. Even today they fail to understand the social dynamics of Iraqi society yet they continue to blather the same nonsense, ignoring the fact that it hasn’t worked and cannot work.
