Discussion for article #246769
I lived in Austin through many “Southbys” and lived in Chicago through many PBO visits.
The traffic while he’s in Austin for his address will be apocalyptic.
I think I’ll be working from home that day
Am I the only person in America who doesn’t have a clue of what SXSW stands for … might that have been a helpful addition to the article?
From the site: The South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conferences and Festivals offer the unique convergence of original music, independent films, and emerging technologies.
From my experience: It’s a huge traffic jam full of people going to parties and posting selfies.
O shit - the traffic. Austin is a traffic nightmare under the best of circumstances these days so man, this will bring the town to its knees traffic wise.
I don’t envy you. On the other hand, it’s pretty perfect that they are going to show up for SX.
It’s an incredible opportunity for the president to speak to thousands of young voters. SXSW is a huge concert with many, many different
and very diverse music acts.
About a dozen years ago, the music editor of the local New Times weekly alternative newspaper went to SXSW and never came back. She fell in love with the event, the venues, the community.
Barack has made some decisions I deeply disagree with, but mostly I am proud of what he has accomplished and proud to have him as our President. I especially like the way he handles himself and his interest in such a wide variety of social and cultural issues. I also think Michelle is the best First Lady in my lifetime. I will miss them both sorely when they are no longer the First Couple.
Ya, everyone who goes there for an event like that seems to fall in love with it. It can be a great place, and a dozen years ago, it was cheap, too!
