I read that article about Mercer when it ran, and what I got is that Mercer was nearly personally responsible for getting 45 elected and there’s no reason he wouldn’t try to do so again. IF he’s still around in 2020 and IF there aren’t numerous primary challengers.

I tend to not agree entirely with that first part. If they can fix it without Democrats/Progressives then why have Democrats/Progressives?
We need to be there not helping ut pushing our agenda, Realizing the American Declaration, Making the American Constitution all it can be.
Same agenda-new day. The fascist in Bannon and his financial supporters has a sub-agenda of stark whiteness that they attempt to veil behind the fuzzier title of alt right.
This agenda is uninterrupted from whichever perch Bannon resides in.
So they move on to plan C or D or whatever but definitely aren’t derailed. Pushing Trumpp into the POTUS seat looked like the big win, the Hail Mary of them all but the inherent Trumpty Dumpty defects were basically unknown so unaccounted for.
Donald fucked the whole thing up, IOW. If only he were as dense and pliable as the dummy Bush.
The nudge Trumpp method will be abandoned and the leverage his ass hard method is the new working idea.
He is trapped in the ridiculous conundrum of appealing to the most hateful and unstable group in the nation, so-called white ‘supremacists’ and Bannon did actually achieve that.
This put Trumpp on Bannon’s playing field and right where the investments of the monied interests had gambled would happen.
And speaking of unstable, Trumpp may or not stay on his Nazi navigated path and may just move on to some other outrageous dalliance that has zero to do with Presidenting and all to do with his endless clamoring for popularity, regardless of the base.
A basket full of various varieties of poisonous snakes won’t suddenly lose the urge to kill and become good neighbors and this discombobulated group won’t either.
Bannon will still be Bannon and the wealthy but mean overlords will still do what they do.
Who is the next Bannon, is there even one and what if any difference at all new meat would make are the questions.
Predictable unpredictability is the answer. We are still at square one!

I’m betting that the 2020 field on the R side will be almost as large as the Democrats’ no matter who the incumbent is. The Republican Party is going to be looking to purge all remnants of the PP presidency, and anyone who is viewed as not having done enough to stop him will basically be booted from the party.

Just look at the poll numbers, no wait, the agenda, no really wait, the Wall- ai dios mio-not that fucker either.
The Bannon ‘boost’ is so suttle and unassuming that it even upon hard inspection can not be easily found.
