Discussion for article #235797
I do think this is a defining moment. What is different about B’More is that the political leaders have been calling out the media on their biases and their contribution to the problem. I feel like something different is happening now and I like it, because it starts to strike at what is the core of the problem.
I don’t know who this Councilman saw yesterday coming out from burning and looted buildings, what I saw on the news media were grown men and not children or teenagers.
Who could stand to have a conversation with Burnett that long?
Thug is code. If Burnett doesn’t know that then she needs to step away from her Wall Street a**-kissing a little more. I suspect she feels entitled to use the word because, ya know, some black people used it. What other word does that remind one of?
I haven’t had cable for over ten years and had no idea CNN had gotten this bad.
A group of people she called gang members tonight are actually sorority sisters wearing the same colors.

Fire Erin Burnett like you should have after her FIRST NIGHT, CNN.
Maybe he saw Kentucky basketball fans, look the previousl protest were peaceful, now the younger kids come out the entire narrative changes? police have killed 290 people since January.
She has that job because she’s considered “hot” but no one has ever called her “smart”…
Win.
What do you call Erin holding a helium-filled balloon? Twins
Don’t respond to that idiot, he’s trolling for responses.
you saw what the news media wanted you to see. Please do not confuse it with reality.
It’s worse.
Two points:
- The word thug IS code for black people who do not conform to white society’s model of decorum.
- The irony is that the term, used in that way, was coined by Tupac Shakur.
Mam, another unarmed young black man is dead at the hands of white police, your job is to investigate and give FACTS about these injustices. What you are doing is pure tabloid fuckery. Plus black people can call their children whatever they choose, even if it’s a thug. You cannot.
If you call them thugs you give yourself permission to overlook what is wrong on our streets. The media calls them thugs to give their viewers a pass and to sell more detergent.
It’s the go to safe to say N word dog whistle. They are kids who made mistakes because they’re angry and lost. Like he said, she wouldn’t call her kids thugs but it’s ok to call other people’s children that. What of the thug cops who murdered Freddie Gray? The thugs in blue get a pass again, why? That’s what the racists called Brown, and Trayvon Martin. Stealing some cigars and carrying some iced tea and skittles does not a thug make. It’s a variation of the N word.
Nailed it. Burnett would never refer to a white group of rabble rousers as “thugs.” I was caught up the WTO riots in Seattle and those menacers were white, so they were called anarchists. No one called them thugs.
Privileged white people like Burnett will never see their bias as bias, but we see it, we get it.
