I do think this is a defining moment. What is different about B’More is that the political leaders have been calling out the media on their biases and their contribution to the problem. I feel like something different is happening now and I like it, because it starts to strike at what is the core of the problem.

It’s the go to safe to say N word dog whistle. They are kids who made mistakes because they’re angry and lost. Like he said, she wouldn’t call her kids thugs but it’s ok to call other people’s children that. What of the thug cops who murdered Freddie Gray? The thugs in blue get a pass again, why? That’s what the racists called Brown, and Trayvon Martin. Stealing some cigars and carrying some iced tea and skittles does not a thug make. It’s a variation of the N word.

Nailed it. Burnett would never refer to a white group of rabble rousers as “thugs.” I was caught up the WTO riots in Seattle and those menacers were white, so they were called anarchists. No one called them thugs.
Privileged white people like Burnett will never see their bias as bias, but we see it, we get it.
