Discussion: Axios: McGahn Leaving White House After Kavanaugh Confirmed Or After Midterms

I don’t know about you all, but I am not exactly surprised about this.

And even though we know this, let’s let it sink in.
The President of the United States has congratulated and wants to pardon an associate of his who’s a convicted felon that lied to law enforcement officials.

Meanwhile 83% of Republicans support him. Un. Believeable.

So will he get his $15,000 a month (hush money) job with campaign and that NDA? I’m sure CNN will have him on often but not disclaim that the NDA prevents him from making disparaging remarks of The Donald…

A Manafort pardon is coming one way or another. I just hope the applicable AGs have readied their own state/district charges to levy the moment any pardon is announced. I’m picturing a scenario in which Manafort is let out of federal lockup, he deeply breathes in the air of freedom, and as he’s walking toward the car to leave a bunch of state troopers from NY roll up and take him into custody. Yes, I realize that’s just fantasy, but it may not be too far off from reality.

Manafort is ging to be required to testify if he gets pardoned.

McGahn wants NOTHING to do with the pardon that’s coming down the pike. He needs to be able to secure employment after this flaming dumpster fire ends.

If he doesn’t get indicted first

That ship sailed the day he signed up

Unbelievable? Not really.

If they watch any news, it’s Fox. If they use social media, it’s with like minded Trumpists. If they do neither, they already know that Democrats are baby killing, god hating, gun hating, welfare loving, black loving, furiner’ loving unAmericans. The line they use about the Republican party as the party of fiscal responsibility? It’s just a cover for their racist, sexist, homophobic views.

I just don’t think it matters to him. How many people warned PP that firing Comey would be an utter disaster? How many times do you think he was told not to do it and given a litany of reasons why? And yet he did it anyway because it’s what he wanted to do.

Well, of all the people leaving, McGahn probably has the best chance at an “after-Trump-career”

Will be interesting.

Will also be interesting to see Rudy Giuliani installed as the new WH Counsel.

Not 83% of people who identified as Republican in 2016, or in 2012, etc etc.

To a large extent, to support the president of Party X is a necessary (and increasingly, sufficient) condition of identifying as Party X. This is a fairly modern development, probably post-Reagan.

Since the denominator is constantly changing, study of the percentage of support doesn’t tell you very much about the numerator.

Could Flood take the WHC job? I think there’s a case to be made that his work for trump puts him in a permanent conflict with work to support the office the of the presidency (for example, things that he has learned working for trump that he has a duty not to disclose, but that he also has a duty to reveal if he’s counsel)
