Not sure how the essay works in terms of telling us “about our current political moment.” But definitely makes me want to pick up Darkness at Noon!
It’s been too many years since I last read Darkness at Noon. But it remains relevant as political commentary.
Perhaps it’s juvenile, but I always saw Rubashov’s resignation at the end to be acceptance of his fate as payment for letting Arlova die at the hands of his own ideology.
