Discussion: Authorities Can Now Deny Visa And Green Card Applications Without Giving Applicants A Chance To Fix Errors

But you can lie and lie and lie on your security clearance form, and eventually be okay, as long as you’re Jared Kushner? Alrighty then.

There is truly no bottom to the depth of evil and unconscionable actions taken by this administration.
Every now and then, I think I can no longer be shocked by their immigration policies.
That thought lasts about 5 seconds…

Or be welcomed to the country on an Einstein Visa (if you are Melania), and then use “chain migration” to bring your parents who can then bring other family members.

As President Donald Trump wages a vocal battle against illegal immigration, his administration has been working more quietly to cut down on legal pathways to immigrate to the U.S.

IOW, this administration is desperately trying to make all immigration to this country illegal.

Which angers me to no end whenever I remember that 2 of his 3 wives are foreign born Americans.

And if they succeed in the long term., it may well be the death knell for the United States of America.

We need immigrants of all sort, highly skilled to minimally skilled. We need workers to make up for our steadily aging population, our decreased birthrate, etc. Our economy needs a steady supply of new workers and healthy immigration will sustain us. And the facts are that immigrants at all levels become valuable, productive contributors to the American society and success.

As someone currently going through this process to get my wife a green card, it’s a mess. And, they gave us a sudden interview letter for Friday, after this deadline passed…I’m trying not to expect the worst but it’s difficult. The worst part is where they aren’t really following the rules anymore…agents using their whim to make such a huge decision for others is not, in any way, how our government should run.

One of nightmares of living in the Soviet Union was trying to obtain any official document. You had to have the form filled out flawlessly and even then, they could deny your application for an arbitrary reason or ask you for more evidence after which you had to get it and come back and wait in line (unless you could bribe them, which is what it was often about). I guess it is similar in other third world or autocratic countries. My experience in the US, in particular in the context of immigration was the opposite, you always get the benefit of the doubt. Apparently no longer, but at least it is consistent with other trends.

i wonder whether some of this is an attempt to open up graft opportunities for officials. It’s pretty clear that there’s no standard in the new policy except what some employee/contractor happens to think that day.

Thanks for the non AP article. Really. ICE is a cancerous tumor and needs some serious treatment.

Probably not intended, but corruption and lawlessness always go hand in hand, if not the same thing.

How well are the employees at Mar-A-Lago vetted? A shortage of service workers there? Who would want to work for him?

Even after almost two years, the gratuitous cruelty and meanness of this maladministration retains the capacity to shock.

You are exactly right.

As expensive as it is to apply the damn fools are putting themselves out of work.

I have a friend from Germany who got legally married to his partner in Feb. 3 years ago. Received a temporary green card and has been stalled on his 10 year one every since. At first he was told they were behind in the paperwork but 3 month ago he received a letter asking for more people to send in notarized letter certifying he had a real marriage ect.
This is such bullshit
And the fees involved are not cheap

The stuff about the professor, btw, reminded me of the bullsh*t some universities used to deny tenure to women in the 70s and 80s – sure, they were distinguished, but were they distinguished enough? Was their work truly groundbreaking or merely excellent?

In Brazil they actually have a word for it — Jeitinho, literally “little way.” The entire bureaucratic structure is built on it.
