Discussion for article #236237
Clearly we’ve misjudged him. He’s worse than we could ever have imagined.
I believe the guy who isn’t Zimmerman.
One day…
Self-defense for this individual man, and for society at large.
After watching the video of Apperson’s encounter with reporters outside the police station in the WFTV link, he comes across as a guy with anger and impulse control issues. Two hotheads standing their ground with guns is a tough call, but yeah, I’ll go with the guy who’s not a murderer.
Some people believe, when they see a black man, shoot first and ask questions later. Everyone, when they see a zimmer man, believes you shoot first!
Seriously I didn’t see that; it might not have been his calmest moment. What I have read is that there was a traffic confrontation back in September, at which Zimmerman allegedly waved a gun and said “Do you know who I am? I’ll fuckin’ kill you” and so forth. Apperson called the police about it. Then Zimmerman allegedly showed up at Apperson’s workplace a couple of days later, and Apperson called the police again. Then Zimmerman moves away from the Orlando area, comes back for Mother’s Day, and somehow they’re in another confrontation. Now, who instigated it? Who was easier to find? They guy who moved away, or the guy who didn’t? With that, and Zimmerman’s checkered career, I know what I think.
You see…that’s the problem with “stand your ground” laws. Someone else can stand their ground too…against you. Need to fix that.
Can we now call Mr. Apperson a thug? He hurt sweet Zimmie much more than Martin. Trayvon was Black of course…
I’d like to think the same but this guy just keeps on trucking. How much you wanna bet Mr. Apperson decides not to press charges?
Just “standing his ground” in Flawduh.
And Trayvon Martin–remember him?–is still dead. Stand your ground only works one way, depending on the race of the parties involved. The law doesn’t apply to the unarmed black teenager who finds himself being stalked by a person unknown, and then attacked. Trayvon’s attempt to defend himself ended in his death at the hands of Zimmerman. I suspect that Zimmerman and Apperson will continue to live on to be assholes.
He shot in self defense of every person in Florida.
Given GZ’s well documented history, anyone could claim self defense in an encounter with him.
Lake Mary Police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett said that it did not appear that Zimmerman had fired any shots.
Neither did Trayvon Martin.
Here we go with the typical internet lynch mob again. Right now, no one knows if Zimmerman is at fault here, but it’s pretty clear this Apperson fool is every bit as bad as all of you think Zimmerman is. If you people want credibility, you need to back off on the assertions. These boards look just as ugly as the right wing forums, only with a few names switched around.
Stay tuned folks, this is Florida. It will get more interesting. From an entertaining story in the NYT about the strangeness in Florida.
“There is always an extra twist of weirdness at the end of the Florida story,” Mr. Hiaasen said. “Weird stories happen everywhere, but they usually come to a logical conclusion. There is always one more shoe that drops in Florida.”
And there is so much more of it in Florida, he added. “It’s not just shooting fish in a barrel,” Mr. Hiaasen said, “but shooting mutated, deranged, slow-moving fish.”

According to the reporting from WFTV, Apperson had arrests for drug possession, dui and trespassing charges with no violence indicated in any of them. I saw in the video warning signs that he didn’t handle stress well, others saw things differently. But none of that even comes close to Zimmerman’s history of violent confrontations that include killing an unarmed teen.
Whatever he says.
