Discussion: Atlanta Radio Host Suspended For Insult Hurled At Female ESPN Sports Analyst

Three day suspension is what I heard four hours ago.

Maybe he should have just said, “I bet you get invited to a lot of parties” or “she was bleeding from wherever”. Because then you don’t get in any trouble at all.

He was suspended for a non-specific set of time

A couple more centuries, perhaps.

BTW, has Mike Bell faced a lot of 95 mile an hour cutters?

Too stupid for words.

Yeah, that’s the ticket. He’ll totally change after his moronic tweet slamming Jessica Mendoza.

His revenge for being called “Stubby” and “TinyDick” his whole life?

“This is not who I am. These are not my values.”

I’m just as surprised as when I read it. It surely is a fireable offense but A.M. drive-time sports radio in any big sports town is serious business with listeners much like hockey fan fanatics.

I doubt that he gives much of a toss about politics one way or the other. He seems to me like a superannuated adolescent. Still, his apology seems sincere and he seems to be genuinely contrite. His three-day suspension seems about the right degree of positive reinforcement.

This is rather like Steve Doocey’s “boobs on the ground” incident on Fox. He showed minimal contrition only because his wife gave him grief about it. The difference here is that Doocey is still an asshole, while Bell may have grown up a bit.

Most of the comments are really knee jerk reactions to this idiot. Jessica Mendoza was a wonderful player at Stanford and really does a terrific job on the baseball telecasts. Usually I dont take these sideline and female tv hosts seriously. They are chosen for looks not sports knowledge but Ms. Mendoza really knows her stuff. This idiot really picked the wrong personto pick on.

Uncle Fester got a job on AM?

You may hate the “catch the coach” interviews. However, the coach is being paid millions of dollars. Most of the money comes from the TV contract. he is basically being paid to be a part of a very popular tv show, just like the players are. Part of the deal is he has to do those interviews, and has to show up at the post game news conference and lots of other obligations. If he can’t handle it, there are plenty of others willing to cash the check and play along.

Whenever people complain about player salaries, I remind them to put it in the TV show context. The actors on Big Bang Theory get 1 million an episode. Their show is only 30 minutes a week. A football game gets huge ratings for 3 hours, divided between 55 “actors” per team. A few players make more per episode, but not per season. Nobody would be playing players what they make if someone wasn’t still turning a profit off their labor.

The horse racetracks also doing that too with their “paddock chicks.”

As soon as I found out whom he was trying to out-play, I knew that.

His creds aren’t nearly as impressive.

Therein lies the rub for the little guy.

I hope I can be a better talk show host and better person.

Mutually exclusive aspirations.

Yes, at least it wasn’t a “I apologize if anyone was offended” nonpology.

Seemed like he showed some remorse.

Additionally, a 65-70 mph pitch in women’s softball from the 43 feet mound to plate distance has about the same reaction time for a batter as a 95 mph or so major league fastball from 60.5 feet.

Granted the softball is a bigger target, but your reaction time is about the same.
