“This could easily be the most costly storm in U.S. history, which is saying a lot considering what just happened two weeks ago,”
…and I have a terrible feeling the poor people in Puerto Rico will get very, very little to rebuild, even though they’re as much American as people in Texas and Florida.
I’m going to channel my inner Pat Robertson here:
God hates Republicans. He sends his most destructive hurricanes during a Republican presidency . Under Obama we set a record for 11 years without a major hurricane. A major hurricane is cat 3 or above. We had Fran Floyd and Opal under Bill Clinton. Only Opal was a cat. 3. The Opal damage paled in comparison to others under Republicans. Under Bush Jr, we had many major hurricanes over a cat 3. Wilma, Katrina, Rita and Ivan etc. Hugo and Andrew were Bush Sr. God really hates the Bush’ clan.

God must hate Trump personally because he sent Irma to his St. Martin mansion which suffered much damage, then on to Florida where he has another mansion.
Some good news on the religion front:
As the authors of the study note, in 1976, fully 81 percent of Americans identified as white and members of a Christian denomination. Today it’s only 43 percent. While 63 percent of Americans over the age of 65 are white Christians, only 24 percent of those under the age of 30 are, a group far outnumbered by the 38 percent of young adults who are unaffiliated.

My thoughts are with those people right now. The devastation will be long-lasting and painful.
Baruda was apparently devestated. The PM said last night that 90% of the island has been destroyed. The body count on this is going to be MUCH higher.
Nature will persist in thrashing these islands like a Big Bad Wolf going after one of the Little Pigs. I hope that aid efforts aren’t just building more homes and public buildings out of straw and sticks.
The real tragedy is that all this disaster spending is going to slow down the looting of the treasury by the GOP.
