Discussion: At Gorsuch Swearing-In, Trump Thanks McConnell 'For All That He Did'

There’s now officially a lot less that Republicans need Donald Trump for. I’m sure that will work out well for him. LOL

Did the new Justice show any shame?

If I were counsel to any matter before the court that involves the US government, I would request him to recuse himself.

From making defeating Obama’s bid for re-election a priority rather than the best interest of the country to unprecedented levels of obstruction in the Senate, ultimately capped off by his breathtaking violation of the Constitution in denying Garland even a chance, he’ll go down as a true villain in the pantheon of politicians.

History will not judge him kindly.

Yep, McConnell was responsible for Gorsuch being on the SCOTUS, since McConnell deliberately broke all tradition to not even hear for Garland last year. DT had nothing to do with it. Nothing. Sorry to say that McConnell’s constituents will still send this SOB back the next time he’s up for election because cheaters do win in the GOP.

“And although he could not be here today, I especially want to express our gratitude to Senator Mitch McConnell for all that he did to make this achievement destroying American democracy and making the blatant theft of this seat possible,” Trump remarked at Gorsuch’s swearing in ceremony in the White House Rose Garden.

Fixed it for you, Comrade.

McConnell’s legacy is writ large on the stone of history already. Here’s hoping (a lot!) that he goes down in flames.

Nominated by a clown to a seat held open by a thief. Enjoy your tainted, illegitimate tenure there, Neil baby. Have fun deciding whether things accord or not with the Constitution.

The one aspect of this that still astonishes me is that Neil Gorsuch, or anyone, for that matter, would be willing to accept the nomination under such circumstances.

To accept the offer of a stolen seat is to support the very concept of a stolen seat.

Shameful.

Presidents nominate Supreme Court justices. I’m pretty sure Trump had something to do with that.

My point was simply that the GOP wanted this from Trump most of all, and he’s now delivered it to them. He sure hasn’t delivered much else, and they’re not likely to show much loyalty to him once the sh*t hits the fan – which it will – regarding Russia.

As I’ve said before the first two paragraphs of Gorsuch’s obituary will be little more than a recap of the way McConnell hijacked the Senate to install him on the court. The third paragraph will, of course, be a short list of all of his disastrous rulings that hammered in the rest of the nails into the Republic’s coffin.

Nice legacy, Neil.

Uh-huh.

Let’s hear the specifics of “all that he did,” staring with last September much earlier, traitors…

edit: @ncsteve reminds me I should have set this point to much earlier.

“We believe the American people need to decide who is going to make this appointment rather than a lame duck president,” majority whip and committee member Sen. John Cornyn (R-TN) said February 2016.

A lame duck, in politics, is an elected official whose successor has already been elected. So, sometime after Election Day, the incumbent becomes a lame duck. The Rs have redefined “lame duck” for their own purposes. Hope we can return the favor.

Obama tried to make the case the people did speak, in the 2012 election, and those people deserved his choice to fill Scalia’s seat. But a lot of those people were black, or gay, or killed babies in the womb, or picked lettuce and voted illegally for Obama. so, you know, there’s that.

Me, I hope not just that he goes down in flames, and soon, but that he burns in hell for eternity for this.

I remember, as a child, reading above the great Statesmen of the Senate. People like Daniel Webster, Henry Clay, Robert LaFollette, etc. People with great ideas and vision, yet respectful of the other party and able to forge compromises.

McConnell is a very small man, a ruthless manipulator of Senate rules, a Machiavellian abuser of power to achieve his objectives, which favor only a small cloistered, minority of Americans.

Ok…ask me how I really feel…

The guy who works four-day weeks, 9-5, is complaining.

“And I got it done in the first 100 days,” Mr. Trump added. “You think that’s easy?”
