Hopefully this gets scuttled like the attempted buyout of T-Mobile. That actually ended up being a good thing overall from a consumer standpoint. With the extra cash, T-Mobile was able to change its pricing structure and force other companies to follow.

Apparently cable and internet bills are too low and Americans need to pay more. And of course they will let this one sail through to because corporate greed is good. Right Gordon.

Why would there be any thought that this does not violate anti-trust laws? (Same thing about Comcast-Time Warner Cable.) To say this merger would be anti-competitive is like saying the ocean is damp.

Thing is, the President could sink both this proposal and the Comcast-Time Warner thing with a simple statement from the White House that the President has instructed the Antitrust Division to oppose the mergers. That would be end of story.

So what will we be down to? Two or three telecomms controlling all phone and media in this country? What ever happened to anti-trust laws and breaking up monopolies in this country, not going out of the way to create them? This is an absurdity and disgusting. Fuck Comcast, fuck AT&T, fuck Times/Warner, fuck Direct TV…

… consumer benefits like more economical bundles that tie mobile phone, pay TV and Internet service together on a single bill.

I don’t consider bundling a “consumer benefit”; it’s anti-competitive, locking out any provider that wants to offer one of the three services, and making it harder to switch. It also makes it hard to determine statistics like how much Americans are being gouged for phone, cable, and internet.

Verizon FIOS was offered with a bundle at $80, and if you didn’t want cable, it saved a whopping $20.
