The Chicago Tribune reported on the proposal of Illinois-based Michael Hari, whose wall would feature a Great Wall-style pedestrian walkway atop a 26-foot concrete barrier. Importantly, the paper noted, Hari proposed making the wall 1,500 miles long, not 2,000, and leaving a significant number of U.S. cities to the south of the wall.

People down in South Texas are already lawyering up. A lot of them have been told that their land is going to be taken and a lot of them live either right on the line or slightly over it into Mexico since time immemorial. Those are homesteads, a lot of them.

Dream on. Unfortunately, Trump’s America is no such place. The North American Community of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico (patterned on the European Union) would be the most robust economic engine in the world by far, but too many Americans would not tolerate free flow of peoples between the U.S.and Mexico. (And the Canadians probably don’t want us either).
