Discussion for article #237342
It was an incredibly stupid move on her part, but that doesn’t take away the problems involved in such a list even existing.
Rehm really screwed the pooch on this one.
And her apology is mealy-mouthed and fatuous.
OMG!
She is usually much better prepared.
Mmmmm…That’s good journamalism!
I agree. She is supposed to be one of the good ones - so there is no excuse
Geez, what’s the world coming to when you can’t trust stuff you read on Facebook? I suppose those Chemtrails I hear some much about aren’t real either.
That’s the excuse? Well, someone got fired but probably not her.
However, I am glad to play a role in putting this rumor to rest.
I don’t know what is worse, that this journalist pulled such a stupid question from Facebook, or that she actually believes that she has played any role in “putting this rumor to rest” rather than helping to promote this rumor to the point where right wing pundits will now be repeating it as gospel truth for years to come.
I can hear it now… “Even the liberal NPR raised questions about Bernie Sanders’ citizenship…”
NPR - Going down the toilet with the rest of journalism
Excellent! Another excuse to pull out the pitchforks and torches!
Technically, she is not a NPR reporter. Her radio program is often run on NPR affiliated stations. Her show is a WAMU production, I believe. Nevertheless, this was poor judgment on her part to assume any Facebook posts contained accurate, complete information.
It will be a little complicated for the right wing, because they like Israel.
Mind-blowing incompetence from someone who has been respected in many quarters for a long time.
‘“I have in my hand here a list. A list that I got from a Facebook comment of the names of Jewish members of Congress who hold dual Israeli/American citizenship. Do you or do you not hold dual Israeli/American citizenship, Sir. Don’t bother to look at your notes, please answer the question.”’
List? It was some derper on Facebook.
It isn’t even as legit as “a list”.
I can only imagine what this ‘journalist’ would have asked Obama about Jade Helm 15. And by “asked” I mean “stated as fact about his ordering the invasion of Texas”.
Here’s a list from 2008 of people in the Bush Administration with dual US- Israeli citizenship!

How does a Facebook post get mistaken for a NPR document?
first: Rehm cited “a list we have gotten” at NPR.
then: …as I had read in a comment on Facebook…
Nah, nothing’s complicated for the right wing.
“What is Bernie Sanders hiding? Why is he ashamed of his Jewish identity? Does Bernie Sanders refuse his duel citizenship because he hates Israel? Is Bernie Sanders lying to voters? Is Bernie Sanders waging a war on journalists by refusing to answer questions? Why does Bernie Sanders hate Facebook? Does Bernie Sanders want to censor social media and NPR? How far will Bernie Sanders go to destroy the First Amendment and NPR and Israel and Facebook and your grandmother?”
See how easy that is?
And, in so doing, she made another mistake by implying that it is possible to obtain information from Facebook. It’s like saying it’s possible to obtain information about someone’s age, height and weight on a dating site.
