Why??
Seriously, my high opinion of Beto just got lowered a bit. How does talking to that old nasty douchebag achieve anything on the path to the presidency? He isn’t even that respected in the black community anyway. Please, find better people to talk to,
Kind of like Rosa Parks, Jesse Jackson, OJ, and Rodney King? Just watched this during the huge 4" snow in Raleigh!
I’m a little confused here: Beto didn’t win his home State in a senatorial race; how exactly is going to win the Electoral College nationwide?
Well, he’s looking for work right now. I’m in the let-everybody-run camp. Obviously it’s a long shot but who knows?
Clearly he recognizes that African-Americans are the critical primary voters in a presidential race in which he has little experience with as a Texas Democrat. I understand he also spoke with Obama and who knows who else. I am guessing he is speaking with a range of voices in the black community, seems wise to me.
Certainly not endorisng Beto. But generally Democrats fared poorly in Red states this year, in Senate races. Arizona and Texas are the 2 big exceptions where non incumbent Democrats did about 5 points better than the partisan lean. This lead to a narrow victory in Arizona and close loss in Texas.
That is mixed with the fact that Beto drew in record shattering fundraising totals for a senate race (for non self funders) and huge amounts of free media. He is credited with pulling 2 Dem’s across the finish line very close House races as well. So he looks good. We’ll see if that gleam can last the next 6 months as he faces more scrutiny. C
I’m with you. Few thought the long shot, black, 4 year Senator from Illinois could win the Dem primary much less the Presidency back in '07. Or…that F-ing DJT would be sitting his fat, dumb ass in the Oval office today.
Didn’t beto meet with Obama last week or so? Would love to have heard that conversation.
He seems to be talking to everyone he needs to, at least to get advice. I doubt he’s made up his mind yet. But of course we heard about the conversation with Sharpton because Sharpton is a little bit fond of attention. Actually when he’s on TV he often makes pretty good points. But I had to chuckle that this one we know of.
Seriously, my high opinion of Beto just got lowered a bit.
Gotta be careful who you’re seen talking to or taking advice from. Sharpie Sharpton still owes NYC about five million $$$ in property and income taxes. What advise could he offer?
I like Beto A LOT. But he needs a big win on his resume before running for POTUS.
If Beto wants to speak with a Reverand, he should speak with Rev. William Barber, instead of someone like Sharpton who’s first priority is to promote himself (as we’ve seen with his spokeperson leaking the possibility of a meeting).
I don’t think that’s fair really. Were he in a state like IN or even FL or OH where a Democrat has at least a shot at winning, I’d agree. But TX is TX and no matter how excellent a candidate is the partisan lean may be too much to overcome. For instance, the greatest GOP candidate in history could run for governor of CA and lose badly because CA is still CA. Considering the campaign he ran, he probably would’ve won in all but about a handful of extremely Conservative states.
Brooklyndweller…it is exactly BECAUSE he only lost Texas by less than 3 points that makes him the perfect presidential candidate. I know it has been said ad infinitum, but Lincoln was also a two term congressman who lost a Senate race in illinois before successfully winning the WH.
Ya mean like Trump?
FUCK That
All bets are off since Cheeto Mussolini won .
Beto had a big win
No Pac money in his campaign , beholden to no one
Why does he have to limit it to one? I hope he seeks the counsel of many black voices. I would like to see him avoid the mistake that many on the left make, which is to ignore people of color right up until they need our votes and we’ve already chosen other candidates. Going to Sharpton was probably a really good idea the more I think about it because he was sure to leak it to the media. Whether one loves or hates Sharpton, it certainly doesn’t hurt Beto with black voters to know he’s already trying to reach out to the black community. It’s actually kind of smart.
If Beto serves to force Bernie Sanders to the sidelines, I may have to take out a personal loan to contribute the maximum to him. Eliminating the fraud from Vermont, who enabled the election of Trump, would be a good thing.
The threat of Beto may equal (or surpass) the actual Beto at this particular time , no matter with whom he speaks.
It’s more than the usual Democratic group…
It’s certainly enough to engender (what would Susan say) “concerns”.
Al, apologize for your Tawana Brawley shenanigans, then maybe we can talk.
Trump won, IMHO, because of the millions (billions?) in free air time given to him by CNN and the likes of Mornin’ Joe.
No Democrat, even Beto, is going to get that sort of coverage. Except maybe Oprah. But I guess that says more about our political press than our politicians.
